Sophia Electric EL34 or KT88 ?? yes, have experimented with these. Pretty good tubes. Sophia electric was the first of the high end custom materials Chinese tubes. The work from PSVANE and Shuguang now surpasses them. If you want to try KT88s the ones to get are the WEKT88 red b...
Which Snell Type A do I have? A-I or A-Original? @ mofimadness is correct on the revisions. I originally heard the A1s, ended up buying the A2s, and later the A3s. sold the A2s to buy a second pair of the A3s for another system, and ended up sending all 4 upper cabinets back to Snell to get th...
phono preamp for Primaluna in the 500 to 700 range, the Marantz 7 clone from China available on ebay is the best I have heard. at the next level up would look for a used Manley Chinook.
Conrad JOHNSON Phono Preamps the PV-5 had a great MM phono stage in its day. Very musical sounding. many of the reviewers used it as their ref piece. I owned a PV-5, 8, 11 and 12. The 5 was the only the only model I regretted selling. It has quite a cut following.
What to do with pre-owned vinyl? not sure its too far of a drive or not, but Princeton Record exchange would likely take them.
Is it really worth it to get a phono stage over $10k @mglik,Last fall I was in the same position. Had tried over 10 phono stages (bought and sold, so was able to live with them for a few months) in the 2K to 8K range. Some were better than others, and some were no better than what I was using at the...
Phono Cartridge for $1,000. +1 for the AT ART-9. have not heard the new 9XA, but do have the ART-9 and ART-1000, both great carts.
Why no interest in reel to reel if you're looking for the ultimate sound? " Vinyl does not sound like analog tape."that statement is very funny. I would be inclined to think the same with an inexpensive phono stage but not with a decent stage. if you compare the 45 rpm pressings to the 15 ips tape they are much closer...
Best 6SN7 TUBES out there should also consider trying the Shuguang WE6sn7 fat bottle. most organic 6sn7 I have heard.
Really need some help finding a full range speaker keep the paradigms and add some subs. will really fill in the bottom end.
WOULD IT BE DUMB TO BUY A MARK LEVINSON NO 23.5 @jeffvegas, key point is comment by @testpilot, and agree. nothing wrong with the amp, but they are known for running hot and being hard on caps. so maybe first question you need to ask is can you recap it yourself? If so then by all means jump in...
What's a better choice? Manley Steelhead Phono or Audio Research Reference 2SE Phono? have owned both the chinook and steelhead. Like you was upgrading a year ago. Listened to the ARC and VTL. ended up with the VTL TP 6.5 signature. may want to add that to your list.
CJ Preamp Teflon Recap I would be careful with those teflon caps. They have their own sound. on older C gear, would tend to use Jupiter copper foil caps in place of teflon.
Why no interest in reel to reel if you're looking for the ultimate sound? @rrcpa is correct. Open reel can be a PITA, but when its up and running, holy cow....its the best audiophile elixir you can get your hands on.
Phono Stage for a VPI Prime Scout If you can squeeze your budget up just a tad to 1400 you can step into a used manley chinook. pretty darn good until you start spending a ton more. |
