Manley Chinook Owners What Power Cord you Using?
have had 2 chinooks. Tried shunyata power  cables on both. Have to say really did not hear much of a difference. Power cables seem to make a much bigger difference on solid state gear. would think you would be better off spending you money on some...
Why no interest in reel to reel if you're looking for the ultimate sound?
forgot to add, you do not need to spend multi-kilo bucks to get a deck running. you can take most outboard phono pre amp stages, convert RIAA to NAB EQ curve and you are good. have done that with the EAR 834P phono stage, as well as a few others. ...
Why no interest in reel to reel if you're looking for the ultimate sound?
open reel is a great sounding format. better than most LPs and better than CD. Unfortunately you cannot get that better sound simply by buying a reel to reel deck from the 70s or early 80s connecting it to your system and pressing play.doing this ...
Best Tubes for VAC
Hi Peter S, you are welcome.; glad to hear you were able to get them. there are some shortages on these tubes now...due to China plants coming back on line after covid. Agree with your comments, have 3 quad sets of GL 88s; they are nice, but they ...
What to upgrade to?
bobheinatz , I dont know your spkrs that well, but am going through similar situation. you have a nice table and arm, I would go for the phono stage upgrade. Last 24 months have bought and sold a variety of phono stages in the 2k to 5k range. fi...
DENAFRIPS DAC ---- Owner Impressions, Feedback, General Discussion, Questions and more....
did not listen to all dacs, but did compare to scarlatti which was better, but also a lot more cash. even at 2x-3x  the price  point for each of the respective denafrips dacs, you are not going to beat them.
Cary Audio CAD-280SA V12R
aren't you exceeding max plate voltage running 6V6s in the V-12?seem to recall max plate voltage of 285tks
Cary Audio CAD-280SA V12R
Had the I version and now have the R version. Really nice amp, and as the other  posters noted, quite a few upgrades. should be also noted that the first input tube has regulation on plate voltages, so you can pop out 12AZ7 and replace with 12AT7 ...
Tube monoblock options?
would agree with atmasphere, how much power do you need and what are you driving?if you need big power with Balanced inputs Series 2 or 3 of the VTL MB-450 should do the trick.
AT 33SA or OC9 for 1200 mk5
i would opt for the AT VM540 MM cart with your table. then sell the Phonomena, and look for a used Chinook. The VM540 cart is over looked because of its lower price. but its a musical cart, and mates extreeeemely well with your table and a chinook...
Manley Chinook Owners Tube Rolling
yes parts connexion or percy audio both sell them. yes, bugle boy amperex tubes.
Parasound JC-1 - How old is too old?
i used to have th JC-1s, great amp, with tons of power. i would not be too worried about dried out caps. the factory installed some pretty good caps, even on the earliest units would likely still be good, but if you want to put concern to rest, me...
Manley Chinook Owners Tube Rolling
the best sound I have had from the chinook, was with bugle boys from Holland. quite the musical tube. the other HUGE improvement you can do with the chinook is replace those loading resistors on the rear PCB. From the factory they are metal film. ...
Manley Chinook with (very) low output MC ZYX?
yep, that is correct. not in signal path but are DC servos for FETs. lowers the noise floor a ton. The other thing you can do is change out all the loading resistors on the back panel to Vishay VSRS.  just like focusing the looking glass much bett...
Manley Chinook - chronic issues
Over the years have had two chinooks. Both were trouble free with MM or MC carts. unit is well made. would wonder  if yours got dropped in shipping. would return to manley have them look at it.
