VTL MB 185 SERIES II would agree with @vegasears , the new auto bias VTL amps are really nice and pretty trouble free.
Bi-Amp Woofers with Class D? class D offers tons of power for not a lot of space and not a lot of dollars. pretty good for freq below 80 hz. And if you buy a class D amp to drive your woofers, go get a big one, not something intermediate....
Choice of capacitor even better than the HTs are the copper foils and paper from Jupiter. Have used both, as well as the Duelands, and Jensen copper foils (Jensens are no longer available). The Jupiter copper foils are more organic sounding. Original poster did not ...
Esoteric Master Clock with CD's data rate (16/44.1) , you still may hear an improvement with a master clock. But if I were shopping for a clock, I would sure look at the pro audio side first, before looking at consumer electronics. Take a look at Antelope Audio clocks....
Nagaoka MP-150 vs MP-200 +1 for the MP-200. go for it, better cart. I have both. The other cart to consider is the AT VM540. tonal balance very close to the MP-200, but the 540 is a better tracker.
Reel to reel , is it real the hype! keep in mind of you get an MTR-10 or 12, both were offered in 1/4 inch tape and 1/2 inch tape formats as two track and 4 track machines. 1/2 tape is addictive though......and 30 ips half inch can be like crack....
Need help with MM cartridge choice agree with @noromance , at that price point the AT VM540 is pretty tough to beat. Very musical sounding cart.
Reel to reel , is it real the hype! before you do anything, you may want to see what is available in tapes first. There are a number of companies that sell them. As others have noted far from cheap. But once you hear true high speed tape it blows the other formats into the weeds. Th...
Thoughts on moving from a 1200G to Sota Saphire or above If I was looking at dropping 10 large, would be looking at a phono stage upgrade over a table.
Cary V-12 blowing capacitors If the main PS Caps were already replaced and failed again, I would be looking at the rectifiers, its possible they may have failed and some AC is being seen by the caps.
McIntosh MC275 VI preamp tubes you may want to test the input tube for performance. As others have noted, they usually last quite a while. If you do not have a MC tester, some places offer testing for a reasonable price
Best modern 6550 tube for ARC per-amp that 6550 is not in the signal path, but I bet you will still hear a small difference. I would be inclined to try a PSVANE KT88 gray glass tube...
After-market mod for VTL TL 2.5 I used to have the TL 2.5. If you look inside quite a bit of room to make upgrades or improvements. 1. coupling caps 2. bypasses on main filter caps. 3. bypasses on the coupling caps. 4. soft recovery diodes in the power supply. Do not know of a...
VTL 300 Deluxe monoblocks on those 300s, I be worrying about the power supply filters. They have a known history of drying out due to the heat they are exposed to. I would replace those big filter caps (check mouser or digikey for comparables) then reflow all the octal soc...
Cheap Amazon Chinese tube pre amps @mozartfan is correct. even with chinese cheap labor, you still get what you get for a hundred bucks. I tried a few of the more expensive models (300-600 range). They are much better, but still not a 16K preamp. |
