Amir and Blind Testing
Great topic. I too agree it can take a long time to really appreciate & understand what a certain component is doing or how it sounds. Often, once you get used to that new sound, it becomes our new standard & how we think it "should"sound....
Schiit Freya + Class A in Stereophile
As good & thorough & informative as many Stereophile reviews & ratings can be, they have their shortcomings. John Atkinson seems to be heavily steered towards solid state electronics because they almost always test better or at least c...
Sad to say I need a new amp…
If long term reliability is a priority, I would stay clear of NAD. Excellent engineering & sound quality for the $ but build quality lacking. Had a preamp & their best surround sound receiver fail just after the warranties expired. Receive...
Is it me? Will I ever be satisfied?
You didn’t mention what volume you enjoy but in a big room, you probably need that big power. At more moderate levels, You might try a good tube amp & see if you like the sound. It should be very different, more air, more body, richer tone if ...
Speaker positioning: why do audiophiles neglect this so much?
I’ve had several different nice systems over the past 45 years & all I can surmise about speaker positioning in reference to listening position is that other than the basic obvious things we all mostly know, there are no hard & fast rules....
Toilet Paper to Vacuum Tubes
Lighten up man. If we can’t make fun of ourselves & our excessive, fun, great sounding appreciation of art & science, maybe it’s time to give it up.
Toilet Paper to Vacuum Tubes
Nonoise - Love the idea of the paper tube centers w/ candles in place of tubes!  The reverse, however, probably not recommended, especially not w/ a KT 150 power tube.
What is your favorite cover?
Leonid & Friends doing any of Chicago's catalogue. Check them out on youtube - out - frickin - standing!!!  All songs note for note identical & perfect even though they may not even really know what the songs mean. Funny. They're all Russi...
Does carpet deaden the sound too much?
I have found that in general, the bigger the room, the less sound treatment it likely needs it. No idea what speakers etc you're running but as said previously, make sure the speakers them sit firmly on the bare floor or w/ spikes going through th...
Recommended integrated amplifier for upgrade
I own a Rogers High Fidelity EFH 200 Mark II Integrated Tube amp & really like it. Very powerful, very well made & sounds excellent top to bottom. It s very dynamic,  w/lots of detail & a dead silent black background. No tube noise eve...
Dumping it all for Lyngdorf???
IMO & experience, NAD products seem to be well engineered & generally offer good sound for the $ BUT the quality of construction & long term reliability isn’t there . I will never own another NAD product again. I’ve been burned several...
Is there any one piece of vintage gear you most wished you owned?
A mint pair of Altec Model 19’s  in oak.
Let me end the Premp/Amplifier sound debate ...
How can you expect any sonic differences be heard for the viewers through a recorded YouTube session ( w/ what mics & recording equipment?)which is then digitized & then re / converted back to analog & played through computer speakers ...
Let me end the Premp/Amplifier sound debate ...
Sgreg1- I really agree with you!  Long term quality & reliability is at least for myself, I major factor in considering how I spend my hard earned dollars. I’ve had my Basis 2500 turntable & Vector 4 arm for 20 years & other than a new...
Let me end the Premp/Amplifier sound debate ...
I could tell electronics that were rated & tested similarly sounded different in high school w/ my large advent speakers & Pioneer vs Kenwood vs Marantz receivers. The extreme example of this is tube vs solid state power amps. Even though...
