Are Headphones Fit for Serious Music Listening?
I love headphones, as do most of the people on most of the forums I go to; Audiogon people don't seem to like them - the headphone thread sees almost no action -  but that matters to me not a jot.  If you want to hear really good headphones, Bowe...
What do the statistics say about the age of Audiophiles and the replacement rate?
@thecarpathian + 1 - that was my first thought when seeing this....
The best opening act you've ever seen & heard?
I saw the Eagles open for Ten Years After in the early 70's. I didn't much like them and the audience of TYA fans SURE didn't like them!  On the other hand I saw Robin Trower open for Sha Na Na at Winterland in San Francisco in about 1974, and po...
The best opening act you've ever seen & heard?
@mitchagain - in 1975, Jeff Beck toured with Mahavishnu Orchestra as co-headliners, each doing a full set and alternating the order....
The best opening act you've ever seen & heard?
@mapman - by the time I found out about it, they were all sold out, but I managed to get a new unopened 'Air Born' box for a very reasonable price. I love these big prog-rock box sets. I've got some King Crimson ones and the Caravan one and the Va...
Presidents Day HiFi sales
@carlsbad2 - don't online hifi retailers have sales? I sure get enough emails from ones that do!
The best opening act you've ever seen & heard?
@jimijam - Camel is great, yeah? They played 3 nights here in San Francisco on the 'Moonmadness' tour, 2 shows per night, and I went to all 6!
The best opening act you've ever seen & heard?
@richmon - did you happen to see Pink Floyd at the Spectrum Theater in March of '73? I was at that one....
The best opening act you've ever seen & heard?
@bassbuyer - when I first moved to San Francisco in 1973, I went to a show at Winterland with Wishbone Ash headlining, I think. The first band came on, who I never heard of before, and they tore the roof off the sucker. Montrose. I had friends in ...
A great singer you may have never heard, or even heard of.
Moon Martin - that's a name I've not heard in many a decade; totally forgot about him.
"...and I don't take any advertiser money..."
They certainly can and many of them I watch do just that.
A great singer you may have never heard, or even heard of.
I saw him open for Rockpile and Elvis Costello at Winterland in San Francisco and got a few photos of him. He's very good for that sort of thing, just not my preferred style.
Hearing Aids
@troutbum - I'm currently using the latest Jabra hearing aids from Costco; they were about $1500/pair, plus another $60 or so for custom earmolds. I'm quite happy with them as far as ease of use and sound.
Hearing Aids
@mahler123 - that's not a bad idea about a Zoom consultation.  More than a few audiologists are musicians themselves and understand more 'audiophile' needs. As far as hearing aids being designed only for speech, for most hearing aids, that is ju...
Hearing Aids
Another thing I'd add is I don't use any kind of 'buds' (besides what goes in my bong!), but I do get custom-molds instead of using the generic domes; only cost about $60 more and well worth it.  @mahler123 - not all Costcos are the same, as you'...
