amateur needs amp advice for a 2.0 setup - please
based on the foregoing, which suggests your speakers are best served with more power, you might consider a hybrid amp like the vincent, which will give you the qualities of a tube preamp and the added oomph of an ss power amp in one box. i've audi...
Dream speakers and amp for an 11x14 room?
i agree that an overly large, dynamic floorstander might not work in your room, but it doesn't necessarily follow that you're best served by monitors/sub, as opposed to a smaller floorstander. since you're optimally going to want to use stands wit...
NHT Classic 12 vs. PSB Subsonic 6i
second the hsu, which is great value. i also really like definitive supercube for ht.
Dream speakers and amp for an 11x14 room?
coverto--check out something of a dark horse--rega rs. they're small florstanders which are unusually suceptible to near-wall placement and quite inexpensive. because they looked lightweight and fairly generic, i was prepared to discount 'em, but ...
Bookshelf Speaker question
since i started down this path (and haven't quite finished my coffee), i'll weigh in once more, then shut up. to my ears, the energy will be more neutral, natural presentation, while the klipsch will have more dynamic slam and in-your-face quality...
Who's your guitar daddy now?

Bookshelf Speaker question
the wharfedales are well regarded entry level speakers--i haven't heard them enough to comment reliably.--i have owned totem rokks and heard the dreamcatchers, which are an update--they're excellent, well-balanced and probably a couple of notches ...
Bookshelf Speaker question
ok, so with your low-powered amp you need speakers with high sensitivity (e.g. 91 db or better)--at your price point i'd look at energy rc or veritas (used)or klipsch rb; triangle is also worth a listen--these are all go all-rounders.
Bookshelf Speaker question
to better answer your question:what's the room size?where will you place the speakers in the room?sub or no sub?
Anyone with Kyocera CD player experience?
i've had and used the 610 for a long time. it's extremely well made--great transport mechanism-- and plays anything i throw at it. it is, however, an old piece, and sounds like it--even modest 90s players like adcom or yamaha sound much more detai...
Best Tributes, Covers, Dedications
most tribute albums are of the listen-once-and-forget-it variety, but one that really stands out is the roky erikson tribute (i believe it's called "when the pyramid.."), which has great covers by rem, john wesley harding, etc. i also highly recomm...
Denon 3806 + B&W 803D....amp suggestions???
i respectfully disagree with elevick--most avr power ratings (nad and hk excepted) are grossly overstated smoke and mirrors--quality of powewr aside, the inboard amps in your denon just don't have the oomph. as stated, i've had good results mating...
Denon 3806 + B&W 803D....amp suggestions???
jutjut:coincidentally, i've long been unhappy with the denon 3300 powering my naim arriva floorstanders in my br system. i just augmented the denon with a 150w/ch parasound amp (utilizing the pre outs on the denon) and the difference is night and ...
An honest opinion about upgrading?
well, your speakers are outstanding; i haven't heard the ayon but it appears to be universally praised. my upgrade path would, as you suggest, start with more power--although the s8s aren't especially inefficient, i would think they'll sound riche...
NAD c725bee receiver and PSB Imagine T Towers
nad's power ratings are always conservative--they have plenty of dynamic headroom. the nad will be a good match for your psbs.
