Gil Scott-Heron I just heard that Gil turned 60 today.
Cogent horns Thanks, duke. So what I get from your answer is that there is lag (sag) at play in the permanent motor whereas the field coil can change direction more precisely. How does that relate to my other question about diaphragm mass? And what about Metra...
Cogent horns Ralph,By "sag" I guess you mean a delay in response to signal. Is that correct? If so, I can see that as an issue with a driver that has some mass but I wonder how significant it can be on the wispy little diaphragm of a compression driver.
Cogent horns Many revered audio products were the result of DIY endeavors. Simple reasoning tells us this much. So I assessed my DIY potential vis a vis the sort of performance levels and product refinement I require and proceeded to shop for finished product....
Monitors for Extreme Near-field listening NHT M-OO, if you can find them, are an excellent powered computer speaker. They were designed to perform as console monitors in recording studios so they are meant for near field listening and intense scrutiny. Nothing I've heard comes close.
Best speaker for vocals I agree with T_bone ..... large horn speakers reproduce voice very well. Mine are as coherent as QUAD with better dynamics and ability to hold it together at high SPL.
Baby name opinion.... I was going to suggest you name her Symphony but then she might get a nickname Phony. That wouldn't be good. How about Harmony? My wife named our first boy Shanachie because she heard it on the radio and liked the sound. As you may know, it is the ...
How does one get off the merry-go-round? Drastic suggestion. Surely you are not serious. And besides being foolish, such a move guarantees no cure. It merely assigns your blame to another temporarily. Remember, you cannot escape yourself. It does no good to stop blaming your speakers and ...
How does one get off the merry-go-round? It doesn't work to relocate from one temptation to another. Any AA person will tell you that there is no geographical cure. First you have to admit that you are powerless over audio. Then watch your behavior - you will find yourself rationalizing a...
How does one get off the merry-go-round? Wouldn't that be deliciously ironic? Lets start an audio buyers recovery meeting here. We could combine it with a weight watchers type program and score points for selling equipment and lose points for buying. We would all tell our stories and say ...
Biamping, bass and amplifier type. Best results and most flexibility comes from single driver set-up. In other words, a separate amplifier channel connected directly to each driver. This means you cannot use a passive crossover. Your signal proceeds from preamp to active crossover ...
How does one get off the merry-go-round? This thread is nearing its eighth birthday and still remains unresolved for many including, presumably, its author. So, is there an answer?I'm not rotating like I used to - certainly I've slowed the circles down - but I also have unresolved issues...
mcintosh amps any one can explain impedance taps I had always heard that Magnepans were a resistive load. Is that no longer the case? Or was I misled from the outset?I also seem to recall that they were 6 ohm.
Biamping, bass and amplifier type. My speakers are bi-amped. I run out of my preamp into a dbx Drive Rack PA. From there I go to a JRDG 102 amp which drives compression drivers through horns. The other amplifier is a Perreaux PMF 1850 driving 15 inch JBL woofers. Since the drivers ...
I'm a Consumer Reports sort of guy. Is there a pla Call some repair shops and ask them. The word quality has two implications. One, which seems to be your line of pursuit, deals with the good, better, best of things. The other, which is the main thrust of the people you are asking, is the characte... |
