Simple System for a Super Senior?
Music Hall is a very good choice also from what I have heard.
Questions about Preamp Tubes
"Tubes in preamps normally last 5000 to 10000 hours of playing time"It makes sense to me that tubes in a pre-amp would have greater reliability than in power amps. But is it all or nothing? In other words does the system sound the same for this lon...
Simple System for a Super Senior?
Buy something new from a reputable dealer. Can't go wrong with anything you mention as long as the service /support is available. What is in your system that he drools over? Just get him something that resembles what he has seen and heard and like...
lps sound bad
Listened again to side 2 of the first ELP album on standard issue US Cotillion label (a .99 cents used acquisition) last night.Definite thumbs up. Definitely vinyl done right, top 10-20 percentile for that genre. ELP's musical showmanship on keybo...
Buying used vs. New
With diligence, you can do well buying used, even on ebay. There are risks though that limit the appeal for many. Never assume anything when buying used and always seek out reputable sellers whether buying new or used. Like much of this hobby, its ...
Speakers better than the MMGs?
Triangle Titus 202s cost me $500 new several years back and were the first box design speakers I owned that convinced me I might be able to live without the larger (than mmg) Magnepan 1.3cs I also owned at the time.Fast, clear and highly detailed ...

Vinyl is/was no panacea. Capable of sounding great, but many poor or mediocre vinyl product out there, especially from the latter days of vinyl in the 70s and beyond. The good news is that remastered CDs done right and with proper care often resto...
Man Cave or No?
I like variety. I have multiple rooms I share with family and a sound insulated "man cave" where I can set up however I please and listen in at any volume at any time.Best of both worlds, though I wish I had a bigger cave perhaps.
MBL alternatives
Morrison and Dueval are some other omni designs to consider that I have heard some good things about.I own and run six pair of speakers. 2 are Ohm Walsh giant killers. Others are more conventional box designs.
History on ohm A's and F's.
Jtwrace,No,unfortunately never heard MBL, so I can't compare the sound. I can compare the two designs however to some degree. They are similar in that both are inherently omnidirectional using a single yet supplemented wide range driver. The Ohms h...
History on ohm A's and F's.
Audiofeil,Have you heard Walsh 5 series 3? What electronics have you heard with them?I'd be curious for a comparison between 5 series 3 and properly functioning Fs if you've heard both.
History on ohm A's and F's.
Pedrillo,One other thing of interest is that Ohm's website indicates that newer Walsh 5 speakers, like those like the F5s in my system, can be set to sound identical to original Ohm As using a certain combination of the 4 range level adjustments o...
History on ohm A's and F's.
I participated in some exchanges here on A'gon threads with Dale Harder a few months back, but not recently. He seems most knowledgeable regarding what it takes to get a pure Walsh driver like those found in old A's and F's operating properly and ...
Catchy tunes that sound great?
Gaawdbless:Jackpot! Thanks.
Gallos how good are they?
"Seriously, I love my Gallo's and they are imaging fools but I am not sure they are built to hang from bungee cords."Could solve the low soundstage issue, perhaps at the lost of some low end.......I'd stick with stands probably though.
