good hifi store in Bay Area
If you are flexible and willing to consider used equipment; try Dan at Porschecab (https://www.audiogon.com/users/porschecab ), in St Mateo. Dan has a fantastic collection of used high end equipment for sale and he is a really nice guy to work with.
What are the best speakers you have ever owned and why?
What an interesting post, thanks OP.The journey for me:Late 60s started with a home made gigantic box, looked great, probably sounded awful. Then Wharfedale Dovedale, AR MST, AR 3a Improved, Wharfedale E90 (A serious mistake, looked awesome, sound...
Marvin Gaye "What's Going On" new 45RPM MOFI UD1S
I am lucky enough to own all the MFSL UD1S pressings. My favorite so far is the Bill Evans Sunday Night At The Village Vanguard. To me, master tape quality with the feel of a live performance. Hard to believe this recording is nearly 58 years old....
What is the best sound system you ever heard?
Easy for me to answer; this Magico/Solution system I described a few years back:https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/2c-hifi-epiphany-worlds-best-systemNothing has come remotely close for me. Returning to the realms of reality, this is my curren...
Suggestion To The Moderators To Rid This Site Of Spam
As the OP, I am not sure where the idea of a tax came from. What I proposed is essentially a deposit of $1-5 to post on the forum. Once the moderator approves your post (within hours I would think?), an automatic refund is made to your account. Ho...

OK, I get the message, not a good idea. Point taken.
High end in Tokyo?
Just go to the Akhihabara area of Tokyo and enjoy. Probably the greatest collection of high end HiFi stores in the world. Of course, there are a lot of stores that are definitely not high end in this area.
The Best City to audition High end and Vintage Audio
The Adelphi in Singapore is very impressive. The Akihabara district of Tokyo is also well worth a visit. Stereo Exchange in New York City used to have a good selection of new and used HiFi.
7M or 25 ft HDMI cable for 4K UHD
I use a 35' Blue Jeans BJC HDMI cable to run from my Oppo UHD player to a 4K projector. Works perfectly on streamed and BD 4K video content. I can't comment on audio quality as I only run video on the HDMI cable.
If I buy electronics from England, will I need some sort of converter to use them here?
Generally yes. There are manufacturers (some Quad and Revox pieces) that allow you to simply switch from 240V to 110V. In most instances you will need a step up transformer, they are not expensive. See my previous post on this subject. However, som...
Cartridge recommendations
I found this review site very useful when choosing a cartridge:https://www.stereophile.com/taxonomy/term-a/172Eventually went with a Clearaudio Maestro V2 Ebony and could not be happier with the results.
Best MM?
I found this comprehensive cartridge review by Michael Fremer very useful:https://www.stereophile.com/taxonomy/term-a/172Based on the above, and budget, I chose the Clearaudio Maestro V2 Ebony MM cartridge, sound is excellent IMHO. I have no plans...
JBL - almost nothing for sale, why?
I had a similar experience back in the day. You probably know this, JBL have relaunched the L100 speakers:https://www.musicdirect.com/Speakers/JBL-L100-Bookshelf-Speakers
Setting up Home Theater with AppleTv4
I had a similar problem where I had previously used the optical output on the Apple TV to connect to a pre-amp/DAC. When I upgraded to the 4K Apple TV I connected the Apple TV directly to a Vizio 4k TV, fortunately for me my 4K TV had an optical o...
McIntosh Tone Controls
I use a C50 (plus MC275-VI power amp) with unusual speakers; Gale GS401As. See my previous post on this system. With my setup the 8 band EQ is very useful, specifically approximately 6dB boost at 50 Hz. Works very well for me.
