KT-150 Tubes- Push Farther or Replace?
@elliottbnewcombjr We’re saying it’s not good data from those testers. OP sees a pair of KT tubes not holding bias in his amp, and knows the hours are in excess of 2000 - and that alone is far better quality data than an emissions tester will te...
KT-150 Tubes- Push Farther or Replace?
Those old emission tube testers aren't going to tell you much about how your KT150 (or really any tube) are doing. A MaxiMatcher and MaxiPreamp can be pretty useful tools ($830 + $990), but if you only have a quad of KT150 and 6H30 to worry about ...
Silver Speaker Cables
@twoleftears Thanks, I definitely missed that information in my first pass. I just don’t understand why one would refine silver to 7N’s and THEN alloy it with copper?! Also, the now claimed composition of 60% silver + 40% copper still leaves see...
What is the “World’s Best Cartridge”?
My encounters and following assessments lead myself to a different approach of thought, I am convinced the K’b is a not too attractive Cart’ when used on certain Designs for a Tonearms and can be underwhelming, even though replaying the music in ...
Silver Speaker Cables
I bought some of Vogue Audio’s speaker cables and after receiving them, I discovered they are actually stranded copper with silver substance filling the voids between the strands of copper. After I contacted them about it, they changed their webs...
KT-150 Tubes- Push Farther or Replace?
There is NO chance I would try to wring more hours out of the pair not holding bias. When it comes to big power tubes, you want to avoid testing your amp's safeguards when at all possible.
What is the “World’s Best Cartridge”?
"Even much lower line cartridges like Kontrapunkts..." Careful, lad, I’m listening to a 500 hour Kontrapunkt C and thinking it is uncomfortably close to what I like about the London Decca Reference. That alone makes me think Ortofon have some id...
What is the “World’s Best Cartridge”?
@mijostyn  The MSL's super-high ratio of output voltage to coil impedance seems to be unlike anything else out there. In fact there's nothing even close (besides Air Tight). Definitely intriguing - must be some super efficient combination of arma...
Premium SuperTweeter Cables?
Great feedback, thanks all! Various bulk interconnects like the DHL or hookup wires could work fine, with some finishing. I've also thought about contacting Drew of Moon Audio - his silver headphone cable uses 4x 24 AWG wires, so I imagine 2 of t...
kt88 vs kt150
Of course results will vary by amp - but I've tried all 3 in my VAC 200iQ auto-bias monoblocks. The KT150 sounds most different of the 3. KT88 and 120 are much more interchangeable. In my VACs the 150 indeed gave a far more powerful bottom end (ce...
Meridian 588 vs Schiit Modius
I heard a 588 almost 20 years ago and it was the first time a source blew me away. Even with a modest system of Sennheiser HD650 headphones and PPA amplifier. I always regret not buying it immediately (it was later sold to another attendee at that...
Analogue v. Digital...again (Washington Post)
Where do you buy the system you listed for "circa 2000"? Presumably you mean dollars and not some exotic cryptocurrency. I mean it’s exactly the kind of system an enthusiast might have bought 20 years ago, around the year 2000. Yes, it would be...
Does Everyone Use 2 Phono Cables with SUT
@labpro  Cool, thanks for the follow up :) The Madake (at 0.23mV and 16 ohms) is not as efficient as most SUT-friendly MC's, but it's not impossible either. You'd typically expect coils less than 5 ohms for an output of 0.23mV (armatures using l...
Analogue v. Digital...again (Washington Post)
The article is actually about Tom Port of Better Records, quite frankly he comes off as an off-putting nutcase. And he can’t help himself from trashing respectable companies like Analogue Productions. So he uses the following gear to listen to $7 ...
Which ones should I choose? Tannoy Kensington Gr or B&W 804 D4
Tannoy, of course :) I’ve heard a lot of Tannoy speakers, including Turnberry SE at a friend’s. I’ve owned a lot, including Kensington SE, but have not heard the GR series Kensington nor Turnberry. Of note, the Kensington model is where they star...
