dacs that I have had in my system - a listing
Good advice....   I plan and save , sometimes for a year or more.   Overtime and sacrifices in other areas is how i afford my audio indulgences.    If I can't buy it cash I don't buy it.
Driver Tubes 6922
I bought a tube tester last year and it was an eye opener.   Most tubes I got from trusted dealers were as advertised but I had a number of tubes that were duds.  Mismatched triodes, weak,  also had a bad 5r4gy (shorted) that would have damaged m...
Driver Tubes 6922
Unfortunately I have also received tubesI thought were used ....  not from Brent but another well respected dealer.    The truth is that a lot of "NOS" tubes are "pulls" , tubes that were lightly used but still test stronger than new.  In the 50'...
Bypassing Sony SACD protocols - is it possible?
My OPPO player will output 88.2k digitally when playing SACD.   They claim it has something to do with the Nyquist freq .   and that  176.4 would not sound as good....
What new gear have you just bought?
Enjoy your new gear.    I just picked up a new Cyrus i7-XR integrated amp.   Built in DAC and Phono.   I'm mainly into tubes but this was perfect for a second system.    It's the size of a shoebox and half the height but it sounds like a real HiF...
Soundstage Heresy IV and Forte IV
I loved my H3...  the Forte is just  more of good thing.   Just as the Cornwall is more of a good thing.... and on up the line.     Sometimes I will feel like an image is wrapping around from front to rear or sometimes things go well beyond the s...
Shocking Lampizator Service
I agree, this thread had too many folks that needed repair.   I would be afraid to buy a Lampizator based on this thread.
Soundstage Heresy IV and Forte IV
Like cfarrow said,  the Forte throw a huge Soundstage.   With my 300b it's a great combo.   When called upon images extend way beyond the speaker .    I think half the equation is the amp.  They sounded great with my  Quicksilver Mid Monos , they...
Soundstage Heresy IV and Forte IV
Big Soundstage without a big footprint is why Ilike the Forte.    The Heresy are good , don't get me wrong but they don't have the scale and authority of Forte or Cornwall and they need a sub.
Soundstage Heresy IV and Forte IV
Buy the Forte IV if you can.  They are the same footprint as the Heresy and with a 12 " woofer and 15 " passive they have great bass.   I traded my Heresy III in toward the Forte IV.   I wasn't really looking for speakers at the time.  I went to ...
Reducing noise in an Ethernet over power configuration
Maybe a switch where some ports are PoE and some are unpowered  I have a TP Link Ether over AC adapter going into a TP Link fast switch with SFP ports.   From the switch I use a TP Link media converter via fiber optic to a media converter next to...
I'm going to buy my first tube amp. I need honest blunt opinions
I also can recommend KT100 after owning several QS products.  I currently have Mid Monos.   They have been super reliable.  10 years old and have been trouble free.  Many , many hours on them and only a few tubes over the years.
I'm going to buy my first tube amp. I need honest blunt opinions
I have had several different tube amps over the years.  40 and 50 watt EL34 and 6l6 amps.   They drove speakers around 90 dB sens in a room about 17 X 15       My latest amp is a 40 watt Solid State amp and it can drive 86 dB sens speakers to pre...

Streamer suggestions with both wireless and wired connections
Ghdprentice is one of a handful of people here that I almost always agree with regarding an upgrade path.  I use his formula or rational, if it does not cost 2 to 3 times more that what you are replace, it's probably not an upgrade.  In this hobby...
