A great has died
IIRC, Garth made several mods to his Lowrey that the company incorporated into the production version.  Here's another remembrance: https://www.theringer.com/2025/01/22/music/garth-hudson-the-band-obituary
I am checking out these DAC's for my system
You can shop for a DAC that provides all of the inputs you currently need.  Alternatively, you can shop for a DDC that provides the necessary inputs and outputs in the preferred format for whatever DAC you choose.  You would then switch inputs via...
BS meter is pegged!
Ultimately, this appears to be just another "objectivist vs subjectivist" thread.  While the OP has carefully parsed the reviewer's words based on their own understanding, the real intent is to shed doubt upon the conclusions reached. I have no i...
Linear Power Supply Recommendations!
Thanks @glennewdick for any additional information you can share.  It's not that I believe there are no possible sonic benefits to an "audiophile" LPS.  I do believe you can be an audiophile at any price level, though, and the most appropriate LPS...
Linear Power Supply Recommendations!
@glennewdick  That seems reasonable, but incomplete.  Did they give you any more specific information, like maker name, specs to look for, sites to shop?  Just buying an LPS because it's cheaper doesn't seem like much of a guarantee of better per...
A great has died
Wow Garth Hudson was my favorite musician in my favorite Band.  I saw them first at the Before the Flood concert with Dylan in LA, then 5 times on the farewell tour, including the closer Thanksgiving Day in SF at The Last Waltz.  I like to say th...
What actually determines volume power? Is it watts?
Look for an SPL (sound pressure level) meter app for your smart phone.  Maybe someone here can give you a specific name to find.  Ideally, you want one that can be set to give you average values as well as peaks.
“A complete unknown”
Check out Don't Look Back, D. A. Pennebaker's documentary shot during Bob Dylan's 1965 concert tour in England.  In a 2014 Sight & Sound poll, film critics voted it the ninth best documentary film of all time.
Springsteen and Clapton on their favorite, heh, band.
Elvis Costello on The Band I was wondering really where you got your odd singing style from? It's very nasal and it has a lot of American inflections. That comes from the time when most of the music I liked was either R&B or white acts influe...
Which sounds better 2 way or 3 way speaker design
All of these are floorstanders with double woofers, resulting in total surface area approximating a 9-10" woofer.  If you're content with their bass output, just go with the one whose sound you prefer. If you're likely to get a sub or two, you mi...
Is the Rockport Avior II an Endgame Speaker?
Here's a thorough review (listening AND measurements).  It still appears in Class A (full range) of their Recommended Speakers, along with ~30 others.  Worth the read, then you can decide which & how many others you want to check out.
Subwoofers are a superlative room treatment
@orthomead  Thanks for the additional details!  FWIW, DSP and servo control both correct the input to improve the output fidelity.  The DSP also does its calibrated frequency response shaping across the swarm.  The servo mechanism may be more acc...
Subwoofers are a superlative room treatment
@orthomead  Enjoy the great sounds! You mentioned DSP, so I assume you did some calibration process to allow it to optimize its settings?  Are only the 4 subwoofers under DSP control?
Identify, repair or replace mid range speaker in B139 based setup
from Wikipedia: "A stadium is a two-dimensional geometric shape constructed of a rectangle with semicircles at a pair of opposite sides. The same shape is known also as a pill shape, discorectangle, obround, or sausage body". Dare we call a KEF B...
B&W 705s3 vs Kef Meta R3
The B&Ws are mfgr rated at 88db @ 8 ohms; the KEFs 87db @ 4 ohms.  Were they or the other pair you auditioned level matched for comparison?  It wouldn't hurt to bring your own SPL meter into any serious listening comparison.  Generally, the lo...
