need amp recommendations for more separation of instruments
Great Thread! I had switched to a higher gain preamp. The sound was too heavy .  So, I moved my speakers further away from the wall. It took care of the problem.  A movement of only 6", made a difference.

This question comes up every three or four months. Use the search field above. Simple answer, yes, if solid state and you have some surge/spike protection. Turn off, if you are not listening for a week, or more.
Subwoofer boom is too much for me...
Subs are good for one thing and one thing Only....Home theatre...........They are a Detrimate to two channel sound This is wrong. A Sub is an enhancement to a two channel setup. It makes up for difficiencies in bass, dynamics, and clarity.  I ...
Your thoughts/experience with very good, cheap tuners?
Cheap tuners? Aren`t they all now? I have an old modded T-85 still in use. Of course, I am in the Chicagoland area, and listen to WFMT and WDCB. I just had a Tech bench a Sony ST-730ES, and the Tech told me it is a great sounding tuner. Can`t wa...
Denon x4700h DAC change
an arcam will blow away your denon   @audiotroy That is your opinion.
Perhaps a guilty pleasure....
There is a bit of esoteric snobism on this site I don`t think so. A lot of Led Zep, Stones, and Beatle fans here. Like many fine musical groups, Heart had one, or two, good albums. They were well ahead of the times, then: years ahead of Pat Be...
That funky sticky remote
Alchohol- not advisable, it may remove the labling. Try a hot damp (not wet) rag, to wipe it. Then, let it dry. You may, also, try using 303  Protectant, on a rag, to wipe it clean.
Denon x4700h DAC change
There have been several forum threads addressing the differences and uses of DAC chips. It would be useful to take advantage of the search button at top this page.
Denon x4700h DAC change
it seems that these chips are inferior to AKM It is not the chips that make the DAC. Its how they are implemented in the design and manufacture of the converter. but could it sound better? You`ll have to compare it to another mfr`s DAC.
Is audio gear sensitive to static electricity?
To answer your headline question, yes it is. I think, the static discharge will occur if you were touch something on your system. Harmful to your system? - maybe over time. I know a static discharge can shut down some system components. With rega...
Ultimate stereo nightmare
I would check where the cable wire is inserted into the temination. A slight chance that it may be loose due to not being fully attached during manufacturing. Try wiggling it near its` insertion as you play some music. If you use locking bananas,...
Best Basic CD Player (no SACD, USB, etc.)
NAD has been known to bring out some good sounding players, but their reliability has been known to be spotty, as well.
Best Basic CD Player (no SACD, USB, etc.)
Any CD player, regardless of price, can have issues. You may be better off not spending too much, on a new player. Brands such as Denon, Yamaha, Marantz, and Rotel seem to make decent units for the money. I`d be careful about spending too much on...
B&W Nautilus 804 - how good are they
The 804`s are fine for a 22x13x8 room. For a larger room you describe, I recomend the 803`s, or 802`s.
Best Basic CD Player (no SACD, USB, etc.)
+1 Rega Apollo. Denon, and Rotel. An SACD player would not cause you to resign buy your collection. It will still play regular cds as well. SACD capability will add cost to the player.
