What is your favorite guitar solo of all time?
Ronnie Earl - Amazing Grace
can PC noise damage speakers?
I agree with Tmesselt - there is something wrong with your computer. It should not be making any noise as you describe. Doubt it would damage your speakers though.
Ripping to Mac OSX
My system is similar to hgeitsman's - I always use AIFF with good results. The external HD is a 2 TB mirror by Cavlary connected to the Mac Pro with firewire. The iTunes music leaves the computer via a 1 foot long Toslink to a signal converter tha...
Cable Elevators - What do you use?
As a follow-up to those that participated in this thread - Not only did I elevate the speaker cables and ICs as previously mentioned, I just elevated the power cords on the mono amps and put pipe insulation around the power cords for the APC and P...
How many hours per week do you listen to music?
Dred: FWIW my wife could care less. We are together, she is enjoying the movie and I am enjoying the music. The only caveat is that she keep the volume of the movie at a reasonable level. It has worked well.
How many hours per week do you listen to music?
About 2 hours a day - a good headset (Sennheiser) turned out to be my best friend because my wife enjoys movies in the evenings. I can watch the picture and listen to my music at the same time. You would be amazed at how much of a movie you can fo...
Cable Elevators - What do you use?
Well, haven't I heard it all now!! I respect the opinions of those that use them and those that don't - there is no such thing as the perfect system, if there was we would all have it - however, there are perfect systems in the ear of the beholder...
Cable Elevators - What do you use?
Interesting comments all - First, different flavors of yogurt do not seem to make any difference. Elizabeth's comments are poignant and, I believe, statements of fact. How all that affects a system is the question. Thank you to those that shared h...
Cable Elevators - What do you use?
Teajay: To be perfectly honest, if the improvement was there it was not enough to make me sit up and take notice. I feel better having them off the floor but maybe I need to go the next step and get the power cords off the floor. . . . More Yogurt...
airport express questions
Realremo: Lifatec offers Toslink cables with the mini on one end and the full size on the other. I have used one from a Mac to the main system with good results (via iTunes). You can also get an adapter for almost pennies to go over the full size ...
Intermittent hum in right Krell fpb 350 mono
Sidssp you are correct - I had to think it through! Interesting though that by (sometimes) wiggling the power cord plug on the amp that I can stop the hum. Other times, when switching the ICs the hum shows up in the opposite channel but is greatly...
Intermittent hum in right Krell fpb 350 mono
Sidssp I was thinking that since the "right" IC was now in the Left input of the processor that the amp in question was now driving the left channel.
Intermittent hum in right Krell fpb 350 mono
I should add that all of the equipment (APC, monos, pre/pro, etc.) are on separate 20 amp circuits. Occasionally switching the amp to a different circuit works, but not always.
Granite under wood for better isolation?
Schipo - Like Actusreus, I found your story fascinating and as they say, above and beyond the call of duty. You are a true audiophile in every sense of the word, not to mention, energetic beyond belief!!
Granite under wood for better isolation?
2 inch thick maple ought to do it by itself without the granite. But if you just need a place to store the granite - well, underneath the maple would work.
