Battle of the Open Baffles
I have been making speakers and modding them since the 1970s.  The information I share is based on listening tests and reading and talking to others about their EXPERIENCE.  There are lots of things to consider....including the phase of the speake...
Battle of the Open Baffles
The ABX Audiophiles speaker has the tweeter way behind the woofer......so time alignment is way off.  And that tube connector that the compression driver is mounted on will add "horn throat distortion'. The Voxativ drivers have crappy binding pos...
Battle of the Open Baffles
Here is a list of things that could be improved on the XSD 1. Drivers are not time aligned. 2. No felting around the mids and highs.....so diffraction city. 3. The mids and woofs are not wired to the voice coil wires....tabs? you have to be kid...
Battle of the Open Baffles
danbro, Gold buttons open links to drivers. Much more to come as I assemble the speakers and test....and also more general info, including parts and construction details. http://tweakaudio.com/EVS-2/DIY_Bi-amped_super_speaker.html
Battle of the Open Baffles
As I have been preaching....he he....make your own Caladan or use a $50 planar instead of the $39 dome tweeter in the Caladan for less than $1500 using the worlds best parts and construction.  A simple version can be built in a day......Home Depot...
New speakers unveiled from Clayton Shaw - Caladan
We are all learning from each other.   We are all each others Guru brothers (and sisters).  We are a projection machine.  We see nothing but our own self.  When you point the finger at someone.....three are pointing back to you.  Love yourself so ...
New speakers unveiled from Clayton Shaw - Caladan
I am about to order the 4 woofs for my own diy open baffle speaker.   Same woofs as in the Caladan but I want to try a $50 dipole planar on top crossed over at 400hz.  Theoretically speaking, it should be way better than the Caladan.  You can make...
Efficient speakers -- What was your journey from A to B to ?
A lot of horn speakers have no time aligning....so the tweeter sounds hit your ear before the midrange. Klipsch have resonant horns and ordinary xover parts.....there is no diffraction control on them, as well. Also not open baffle....Open baffle ...
Tekton Open Baffle Speakers
I have read no negative speculation. However, I have seen how they are made and what I said is what I recommend. All speakers will sound better if time aligned, and use better parts, more dead cabinet and have diffraction control. I have been maki...
Tekton Open Baffle Speakers
Basically the Perfect Set 15 without a box for the bass. Let’s see.....no time aligning.....tweets and mids hit your ears before the woof, no diffraction control....so smeared sound (should be felt around all 7 mid/tweets). Then there will be the ...
DSP Active Crossover
Most systems that use the Minidsp stuff are low end systems. I don’t know any high end speaker company that uses them (anyone?)......however, the latest Minidsps are very good. If you are just making a 2 way speaker like I have described then the ...
True high-end Speakers need a midrange
My "build your own open baffle two way speaker" page now has more info and a few pics. All the designs suggested use 2 (or more) of the 12 inch Beyma drivers that Clayton uses. These speakers are very easy to make and will give incredible sound fo...
Fosi Audio V3
I have one here and I will be starting to mod it this week.  I am going to remove the first set of electrolytic coupling caps and the opamp and replace the second set of electrolytic coupling caps with modified Wima caps.  I will then drive the ch...
True high-end Speakers need a midrange
It is true you cannot get low distortion at low frequencies with a normal tweeter.....unless you waveguide it, cross it over very steeply or use multiples like Tekton does. However, if you use a planar midrange/tweeter and you cross it over at 400...
