Ideas for an amplifier? I have a McIntosh mc2100 but I just need more juice. The McIntosh is a 105 watt per channel amp. If you need more power than that you will need to look at amps that typically cost more than $1000.
Need help finding parts for Mark Levinson No 390S CD Processor What does Mark Levinson say? What's the part number? Is it an off the shelf chip or custom?
How important is spending time with your gear? Tube gear with the tubes glowing, yes, I need to see that. Solid State rectangular boxes, not so much.
klipshorn speakers @larryi Has it 100% right. Mac makes great looking gear but other brands make great sounding music.
AR 9 LS Speaker power question AR loudspeakers of that vintage respond well to big power amps. A solid 60wpc is good enough if you don't play loud. 250wpc is better.
Are Tube Buffers for real or even worth it ? I've tried a couple of tube buffers. I hate to agree with the measurementistas but they are just distortion machines. I would look for a tube preamp something like the Schiit Freya+ or even a more expensive tube preamp.
Hear me out ;-) Moving from Integrated Tube Amp to a Class D I know exactly what you are saying. The Rogue Sphinx will solve your issues. The preamp tubes will last a long long time but keep a spare set so you have no down time. You get the best mix of tubes and class D in one unit. If you really want to du...

How accurate are cable descriptions for your system? Discussing cables is a plague among audiophiles... I think you are right but that final cable selection is what brings the best out of my systems. Once that is done I've got it as good as it is going to get. (I have a selection of cables to try...
How much air does my preamp need? It's hard not to go with the manufacturers recommendation but a preamp doesn't make a lot of heat so I would be OK with an inch on top and open everywhere else. Way more clearance if the back is on the shelf.
How accurate are cable descriptions for your system? If you get 10 guys saying what a cable sounds like and they all agree, or the majority agree you can bet that the description is a good evaluation. Now in your system they may or may not be as dramatic or more dramatic because it's the interaction...
which is a better speaker Guy complains about free advice! Reminds me of the expression: "If everybody says your drunk. You better sit down". Pretty much all of us tried to lead the OP in the right direction but our advice was not appreciated.
SoundApproach does not honor its agreements Take your refund and move along. Not worth dealing with companies that can't deliver product.
which is a better speaker ...the only thing I learned is that there is a bunch of crabby old guys on this site All the advice was solid advice. Nobody was being crabby, they were telling it the way it is. Personally I would heed the advice and you will be happy with you...
Who actually uses digital speakers? Speaking for myself, powered speakers take too many options away. No choice of amps, preamps or other gear. Great for the studio where the install is easy. |
