Akai 747 w/DBX question I hope you weren’t using a bulk tape eraser. Those are way too powerful to demagnetize a tape deck, and have pretty short duty cycles
Cartridge Upgrade ...AT ART-9? I should add that I own three Technics linear tracking turntables, the SL-DL5 which is direct drive but not quartz locked, and two SL-QL5 turntables, which as the name implies are quartz locked. They use the p-mount system, which is pre-calibrated...
Cartridge Upgrade ...AT ART-9? The SL-15 uses a p-mount cartridge, of which your choices are severely limited to conical and bonded elliptical moving magnet designs. Keep that SL-15 as it is very historically significant and buy a conventional arm vintage or new direct drive tu...
Brilliant Pebbles, a new tweak, cheaper than high end cables. And the guy in the giant banana costume marches in and the crowd goes wild!
Linear tracking turntables, whatever happened? @uberThese are very good comments but I am still left wondering what was wrong with the general consumer models like the Revox, B&O, Technics etc that caused their lack of acceptance. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the Technics linear ...
AT-VM95ML or similar?! The VM540ML is vastly superior to the VM95ML. I own two VM540MLs and love them. Probably one of the best values on the market today for a mid-range MM cartridge.
Brilliant Pebbles, a new tweak, cheaper than high end cables. Enter the dark matter coated banana springs. (Cue the guy in a giant banana costume) ... Here ya go folks, step right up here, get yours while it lasts ... more rocket 🚀 science from Geoffy the Fuse Troll.
DAC + ADC Device to Replace Tape? Looks interesting @oddiofyl . At that price it’s tempting, but still needs a PC to do the heavy lifting. Maybe they’ll bring out a follow-up with network connectivity built in.
Cartridge new or used ? Some time I’ll have to examine the mounts of my various (low to mid range) cartridges under the microscope. I’ve got several dating back to the early ‘80’s also, so that should be interesting.
Cartridge new or used ? @chakster Modern MM is out of fashion in audiophiles world, manufacturers does not care about it much, because the profit is low compared to the MC, let’s face it. This is the reason why MM/MI from the 70’s/80’s are so amazing. I disagree. Modern ...
Akai 747 w/DBX question I own a 224, but haven’t used it in a while. It’s compatible with any line level deck.
Cartridge new or used ? @chakster I don’t know who was responsible for the 80’s AT cartridges, but maybe their customer service department may be able to help.
Akai 747 w/DBX question As Cleeds alluded to, when dbx type II is incorrectly set up (it is dependent on proper level settings for optimal results), you may experience pumping or breathing artifacts. The Dolby “A” noise reduction that Cleeds also referred to is a commerc...
Cartridge new or used ? @uberwaltz said:You definitely have some deep rooted trust issues. And your comments about doctored feedback is highly amusing. But to each their own, I have no problem with anybody who prefers to go the route you advocate but please do not harbour...
Cartridge new or used ? Why would you go vintage when brand-new, I’m-abused Audio-Technica Micro-Line cartridges are available everywhere at reasonable prices? (Thanks Chakster) I prefer a known commodity, and it’s worked out superbly with my VM540ML cartridges. Heck, I ... |
