Final Analog Upgrades
@lewm So, I emailed Ron Sutherland.  He said that the suggested internal impedance of a cartridge used with the TZ Vibe is less than 20 ohms.  The old SL has an internal impedance of 30 ohms as you mentioned.  Ron said it might be fine. The new S...

I've read good things about the SL as well.  I'm sure you'll like it.  I had people recommend a Darlington Labs phono stage.  Seems like a lot of bang for the buck. I had a KC Vibe, but I was using it with a Goldring MM cartridge. I haven't heard...
Audiophiles and De-cluttering -- your journey toward both psychic and sonic improvement
To me, the ideal speakers for home theatre would be three identical speakers for fronts and center. Not real practical if your mains are towers.  My center channel isn't the same model or brand, but it actually blends well tonally with my mains. ...

I'm using a Hana ML cartridge with a Sutherland TZ Vibe phono stage. It's in your price range.  Sound is excellent.  I haven't heard the SL. I think it would be worth the money to go to the ML if you can swing it.  That's just based on reviews.

Help :( Speakers making constant static sound I cannot figure it out
I did have a conrad-johnson preamp that produced a static sound out of one channel. Replaced all of the tubes multiple times. Fortunately, the seller let me return it. From the research that I did, it could have been a resistor, but I didn't want ...

@carlsbad2 None of my 5.1 components are in the playback chain when I do two channel listening. They have zero impact on sound quality.  It does take up some space, but I bought a rack large enough to hold everything.  Movies would not be the sam...
Collectibles signed by musicians. What do you have?
Wow.  Great stories! Thanks, everyone.

This isn’t signed, but I own the Suhr guitar shown in the video linked below. He starts playing it around 35 seconds into the video. I think Kevin Skaff got a contract with PRS, so he sold the Suhr. Sweet guitar.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
Help :( Speakers making constant static sound I cannot figure it out
You might get lucky and it's the 12AU7 preamp tube that appears to be common to both channels.  I would replace it first.
Help :( Speakers making constant static sound I cannot figure it out
Have you said if it's one channel, or both? Tubes don't always last a long time. It depends on the design of the component.
Help :( Speakers making constant static sound I cannot figure it out
Do you have any extra tubes? I wouldn't run it with a tube missing. I don't know if it would hurt anything.  It looks like the 12AU7 is a preamp tube common to both channels. If you are getting noise in both channels, I would replace it.  If you...
What has been a favourite moment in Audio?
@lrlacosse It was probably around 1976 that I got my first real stereo. I earned the money by helping my grandfather on the farm and erecting irrigation pivots. An older cousin sold electronics and he let me finance it.  A big Panasonic receiver w...

I reorganized by getting one, nice audio cabinet. I had been using an old audio cabinet and a tv/media cabinet.  Didn't get rid of any gear, but the look is much cleaner. It allowed me to better decorate the area and it looks pretty nice now inste...
