Technics SP-10 mkII speed adjustment question
Lewm, The Dobbins treatment is not an irreversable step. He did the same with one of my mkllls and sent me back the chassis housing which can be reinstalled with about 3 bikes work he tells me. Not that I ever will but good to know. It's a great p...
Audio Desk Record Cleaner-Anyone buy one yet
Syntax, I agree with almost everything you say there and respect your opinions. They are opinions though, you do realize that right? Opinions are expressed as scientific fact in these forums almost constantly. Have you for example had extensive ex...

Thanks for your input Mike. I'll be using the Audio Desk soon but won't be selling the 16.5 just yet. If the Audio Desk goes down I'll need a backup. I am looking forward to getting through a little more of that "to clean pile". Finding and buying...
Catchy tunes that sound great?

Sgr, To me the main benefit of this machine is not whether it's better than the 16.5 in effectiveness. I've heard it may be. The ability to push a button and return in five minutes to a finished record is where the money is IMO. I can clean 10 rec...

I agree that the price will not likely come down but if it works reliably it is worth it. Consider that every other machine requires laborious attention. The Audio Desk is the only one I know of that apparently does a good job and makes the proces...

Jyprez, That's an interesting idea but I'm not sure how easy that would be to implement. If it worked you're still left with a wet record that needs to be dried in some way. The major advantage of the Audio Desk is speed and convenience. This appr...

This is the kind of machine it would be nice to do a trial with. I saw it working once and wasn't impressed especially since part of this particular unit, a pad as I recall, kept falling off. If it normally works well and simplifies the cleaning p...
Best Rock Album in 2012
Another vote for Gotye's Making Mirrors. The sound varies from good to very good and the music is very interesting. The vinyl is quite thin and both discs in my copy were pretty badly warped. The Vinyl Flat took care of this with no adverse sonic ...
Mapleshade Steamer Kit.....anyone?
I still think it adds to the process. I think using it alone is probably what's disappointed many. I've always seen steam as an adjunct to a cleaning regimen. As part of a multistep process including cleaning fluids, vacuum RCM and lab grade water...
Azimuth observations and importance
I realize I'll likely be blasted for the above post but, as great as vinyl is, it's not a perfect playback medium. Do we really believe all records are cut the same? Even from the beginning of one side to the end can vary. The perfect adjustment f...
Azimuth observations and importance
My opinion on azimuth is that it's always a compromise, no matter how long you agonize over it. I set the arm up to look balanced and see how it sounds and adjust by ear if necessary. I've never really believed the compromise you spend ten minutes...
Uncle Tupelo Fans
Thanks for the information. My wish list just keeps growing. I have to remember soundstage direct. They seem to be a top supplier.

Anodyne isn't too easy to find anymore. Scott, Do you have the fairly recent Whiskeytown Pneumonia on clear vinyl? If so how does it sound. I've been considering this one for a while.
Ram reissiue
This is one of those albums that's so easy to find in good condition as an original ( other than the mono). I see no reason to fork out top dollar on a reissue that probably can't equal let alone top the original.
