Blown away by Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1
http://www.sa-cd.net shows two SA-CD releases with Piano Concerto #1.
Serenade 13 in G Not Ruined By Starbucks, Please
Also look for Telemann's Oboe Sonatas on Harmonia Mundi. While not strictly quirky, and definitely not obscure, you should look into getting a collection of Haydn Quartets. The complete set on Naxos by the Kodaly Quartet is exemplary. An apex of W...
How did you get into this hobby?
When I was about 11 months old (as my Mother tells me) I would crawl over to the "hi-fi" system (one of those pieces of furniture with 4 legs and a top that opened up to expose a turntable and an AM-FM stereo) and lay under it. I wonder if the ima...
Best single-malt Scotch...
Hbarrel, I've always far preferred the 18 year old Glenmorangie to the 10 year old. Do you prefer the 10? I'd love to hear your comparison of the two, if you've tried them both, which I'm confident you have. In other news, Lagavulin 16, which de...
Von Schweikert VR2 vs Sonus Faber Grand Piano H
Hi, For once, I feel almost uniquely qualified to respond....I am listening to my Sonus Faber Grand Piano Home speakers right now. Needless to say, I love them. Needless trivia... they are playing Jackson Browne's "Lawyers in Love" right now. A po...
The best var. out CD player for under 1500 used?
A Wadia 830 is on the block at $1450. Just listed today. You probably can't do better than that.
Best real DSD recordings on SACD.
I think my favorite so far is Stravinsky's "The Soldier's Tale" and various other works by the Cincinnati Symphony under Paavo Jarvi on the Pentatone Label. The Pentatone label has some of the best sounding SACDs available right now. You might als...
Looking for the identity of a 70's song
I stand corrected.
Living Stereo SACD's are a comin
Indeed. I'll be the first to admit that my center channel isn't "music grade". Someday.
Living Stereo SACD's are a comin
I figured out that the "funny" spots can be attributed to my crappy center channel speaker. Buyers be warned. The three-channel recordings will tax your center channel. Now I want to upgrade my CC. Does it ever end? (I know the answer. Sigh)Don't ...
theta tlc between transport and dac benefit?
I have no experience with this product, but here's my two cents...Don't add components to your signal path if you can avoid it. If you think you've got a jitter problem, look at either a transport/player with low jitter or a DAC that re-clocks the...
Looking for the identity of a 70's song
The song title is "Candy Girl" by the Archies. Try the hip-hop version by Nitty called "Nasty Girl". Far more soothing, in my humble opinion.
birdland odeon-Ag VS Perpetual Tech P1A/P3A/P3
If you can find a Birdland used, go for it. The others don't compare. If you want something significantly better, you'll have to open the wallet wide and get a Theta Gen VIII or a Levinson, IMHO.I have an Odeon-Ag and I swear by it.
Toslink Survey / Please Participate
I once asked Gilles at Birdland Audio for his recommendation on an interconnect, since the Birdland Odeon-Ag supports TosLink, BNC, and XLR inputs. He actually recommended the TosLink. I was pretty surprised. I still use a BNC Coax cable because l...
How do you fix an ''out of print'' scratched CD ?
EAC is Exact Audio Copy. A software program for copying discs. It is freeware as far as I know. It works great, too. You might also try Auric Illuminator. I've had good luck with it. Polish the disc and it may play perfectly, or at least better.
