Who makes the most musical hybrid preamps? I owned a BHK Pre. Ran it with BHK mono’s, and a McIntosh MC452. Great sounding pre. I ran Pass Lab pre’s after the BHK, which are non-hybrid. Then went direct from the DAC to the amps, and now run a VTL 6.5 II pre amp, uses two 12AUX7’s and it ha...
Current or Previous Harbeth Owners… @rubicon15 I’ve not compared them, but had owned B&W early in my hifi journey. Spent time listening to the 805 D3’s & 804’s. Certainly had some qualities that I liked, but the two speaker brands are on the opposite spectrum. You either l...
Current or Previous Harbeth Owners… @donquichotte had you listened to the M series previously to getting the Classic 100’s? I wish I had a shop near my home, closest is about 2 hours, w/o traffic, and unless I’m interested in DAgostino + Wilson, I’m SOL. I’ve been reading on the...
VTL Pre tube roll…or suggestions on 12AU7s @johnss “…that’s what she said.” TY, I’ll check them out.
Current or Previous Harbeth Owners… All, TY for the responses.
New room needs new speakers, I need your help @maurice89 fair enough. I did spend a couple months a/b’ing a set of Dynaudio Heritage Specials. What a beautiful sounding speaker. Just packed them up and sold them to fund some other investments. But, they have a really smooth high to mid tr...
New room needs new speakers, I need your help I would encourage you to check out Harbeth HL5+, or + XD’s.
DEQX not discoverable... Al was an Audiogon legend, RIP. I do recall this frustrating moment, only to discover it was my USB connections being plugged into the wrong ports on the back.
Speaker cable options, Audioquest, Black Cat and Canare I’ve owned Gibraltar’s, and can’t really speak to them…they carried the signal. They were fine, but expensive. When I rebuilt my system, I budgeted very little for cabling, on purpose. I’m now using Audio Art and Pine Tree Audio cabling, 1/4 the p...
Equalizer in a Hi Fi system If you can locate one, the DEQX Premate is beyond phenomenal, add’s time delay and sub integration…two other fairly important components when dialing in. Lyngdorf made a unit, RP-1, if you can find one, another excellent piece.
Speakers, speaker cables or I’m getting old… @zszwedo I do think the Dyn + Pass combo is magical for many. I like them, but have been A/B’ing the Harbeth SLH5 XD’s and the Dyn HS. Very different speakers. Comparing them for my personal tastes, I’ve opted to go with the Harbeth’s. They’re...
Speakers, speaker cables or I’m getting old… Everything has begun to settle in. Some isolation bits arrived from Butcher Block Acoustics, swapped in the Harbeth H5 XD’s, along with the new speaker cables. The hiss and sheen on the higher frequencies are no longer present. Tomorrow I’m droppi...
Stack Audio Auva speaker isolators I bought sets for me pre, DAC and streamer, yet to receive them. They’ll be resting on isolation platforms. I don’t know if they’ll improve anything, but it’s not an expensive loss if they don’t.
Handling Heavy Amps I’ve dealt with the same. Because I don’t move gear often, but have had some heavy items I can’t even slide across the floor, I hire “College Hunks.” Gosh, I’m laughing at posting the name of this company. Either way, these two mule’s with head...
Overkill for small room I’ve ran the Confidence series and Heritage Specials. My HS are in about the same size room as you’re referencing. I use the standard issued Dyn stands for the speakers, along with the HS plate. I recommend you fill whichever stands you go with. I... |
