Why do people that are Into rap and hip-hop even want a high-end audio system
You're the only ones talking about cultural lineage.  We're talking about music and you attack us as if we were belittling or demeaning the culture.  Shame on you.
What are you favorite artists and songs to listen to on your system?
lowrider57, I'm a fan of that Sinfonia Concertante.  I'd give high marks to Stern/Trampler, Perlman/Zukermann, and I. Oistrakh/D. Oistrakh versions.I listen to classical (especially string quartets, especially played by Guarneri), jazz (a lot of M...

So, onhwy61, if I suggest that Andy Warhol's Campbell's soup cans may not actually be art, am I continuing a tradition of bashing gays? No, because the art itself is separate from the artist.  My opinion of Warhol's art has absolutely nothing--I re...

It's still an unfair presumption.  It's saying, "I know what you're thinking and what's in your heart."  It's very unfair.  I was largely raised by a black lady who I loved.  I worked under black men and I worked side by side with black boys.  I f...
When did good gear start getting your attention?
I bought a Mac 2300 amp to use as a PA power amp, ca. '74.  I kept going back to the store.  I was a Mac/Tandberg guy for quite a while and then could no longer afford the hobby.  Picked it up again 10 or 12 years ago.  My old system never sounded...

jond, if someone suggests rap is not music (but rather some other performance art form) it's not necessarily a knock.  And even if someone finds it annoying or offensive it has nothing to do with their stance on race.  You're reading things into t...
Best upbeat jazz/progressive jazz/new age CD?
In the same realm as eddinanm3, the studio album "Passion, Grace and Fire" by the dm/Mc/DeL  trio sounds superb."The Inner Mounting Flame" (Mahavishnu Orchestra) is recorded well enough and is an awesome mix of rock, funk and Indian sounds.  BTW, ...
Is high end audio to snooty for its own good?
I've noticed that occasionally someone unnecessarily works into a comment the name/brand of some piece of equipment they own and I've wondered about it.  I think it's more that they really love the piece than it is flaunting it.  I'm not sure it h...
What do you do when you live hours from nowhere
I get my info from A-goners and online reviews and then seek out the most-likely-to-please-me equipment locally (when possible).  I have also bought unheard/unseen.  I couldn't be more pleased with the results so far.
Why do people that are Into rap and hip-hop even want a high-end audio system
I think it's a different concept of high-end with a definite boost of the extreme frequencies.  Look at the Beats headphones which were popular but which no traditional audiophile would want any part of.  But mine is an outsider's view, so take it...
When rap came out 30 years ago I thought it was just a fad
There's no denying you've done your homework but you 1) make statements and then run away from them rather than back them up  2) have a strange way with the English language and 3) apparently have a need to prove the worthiness of the sounds you l...

"certain kind of so called music lovers"--but, of course, you don't mean anyone here, right?  No accountability = no credibility.
Bob Dylan MoFi
PS, AARP will start hounding you to join before your 50th birthday.  So wherever you happen to be, it won't be long...the good thing is, you don't have to join.
R.I.P. David Bowie
No one has mentioned "The Man Who Fell to Earth," a stellar performance on film.  The local classical radio station played his reading of "Peter and the Wolf" (Ormandy/Philadelphia Orch.) yesterday.  He was quite an entertainer.
Most of us have this in our collections ....
Morello had an amazing touch and Desmond an amazing sound.  What a band!
