Testicle Tumor
Foxtrot, my best for a sure and speedy recovery.A very close friend of mine also had testicular cancer. He was maybe 22, and it was more than 10 years ago. He recovered swiftly, and has been a most viable person since. That includes being quite ca...
Suddenly, things are sounding awful...
Lousyreeds1, we are just about all guilty of the same offense. We focus on the glamour stuff, when the room is the most important component. The coupling of the room and speaker is directly responsible for a larger share of the sonics than any oth...
Soliloquy 6.2 Very Poor Treble .....
Thank you for the kind words, Distortion.Actually, I made a mistake in the initial analysis of the crossover. While thinking it was a 2nd order, after further review, it turned out to be a classic 3rd order, with 3 resistors. Mea culpa, mea culpa....

I also think it's the room...See if you can put things back to the way they were previously. Once you do that, you'll know if it was positioning or if your tastes have actually changed during this time.
whats the biggest mistake you made?
Sold my Jadis Orchestra Reference to make some room by moving something that was "collecting dust". After I retubed it for the buyer, I was dumbstruck at how good it sounded.Picked up a DA30 to make things right, though I still have yet to regain ...
Ei Gold Elite vs
Funny, I am also in the Ei Grey Plate camp. Heard some say the Gold Elites were no better, and other say they were not as good. Not sure, as I have yet to use them. Too happy with the regular ones to look elsewhere...
Soliloquy 6.2 Very Poor Treble .....
Distortion, from two of the above posts, I was also a bit intrigued by your crossover. Is there any possibility of providing a picture? It is possible that the coil is in parallel, which is what one of your descriptions implied. In that case, my n...
Soliloquy 6.2 Very Poor Treble .....
Yes, it sure is fun to play with this stuff! After a while, just from doodling, you get the feel of how changes effect the sound, and how this so - called black art, to be even viewed only by the chosen ones, is really something we should be dabbl...
Jolida, The Company - An Interesting Article
Thank you for this thread, Dougmc. The most thought provoking would be whether there actually is benefit to manufacturing in China.I had no idea was in such financial straits in 2001. I do know their CD players prior to the current model were absol...
Soliloquy 6.2 Very Poor Treble .....
Thank you for your kind words, Distortion.First try jumping both the smaller cap and the 4 ohm resistor also in series with the tweeter. This is a Zobel network, meant to flatten the impedance rise of the tweeter's voice coil as the frequency incr...
sonny rollins
I saw Sonny at the Keswick theater, outside of Philadelphia, last year. What a thrill! Doesn't have quite have the power to tackle the works of his prime, but still an icon. A definite must see if you can.
Soliloquy 6.2 Very Poor Treble .....
Thank you, Usblues!Distortion, you are lucky to have the crossover divided up onto two boards. It's very good design. I am pretty unfamiliar with the Soliloquy speakers, but I have liked the sound of those I have heard. On the tweeter board, the in...
Soliloquy 6.2 Very Poor Treble .....
Just to see if it is worth it to mod the speaker, try using a simple wire with alligator clips on both ends to bypass the resistor that probably exists in series with the tweeter. It will take all of about one minute to accomplish this, most of wh...
High output DAC?
I'd like to second Johnd's suggestion of the Timbre. I live near the two owners of the company, when they were in business, and a few visits to one of their homes was absolutely astonishing in that the DAC really did sound like analog. Through the...
Power Conditioner to the rescue
John, thank you for stewarding such an informative, interesting thread! The effort you have put into writing such a professional, well written, accessible story should be commended. Most (and certainly me) do not have the drive or skill to do as f...
