Forgotten early New Wave...
I was in a cover band in Hawaii when the Motels were in town for a concert (early 80s)...we were playing 6 nights a week in a giant hipster dance club so we were tight, and Martha came in and sang with us...we already did a few of their songs and ...
Best amplifier for klipsch heresy 3 speakers.
Jolida...I loves me my Jolida! The 60 watt remote integrateds are sweet, cheap, and have plenty of juice...I use the 502P power amp and it kicks it up (do people say that?) well and is inexpensive even new.
Best amplifier for klipsch heresy 3 speakers.
I'd avoid pro amps...I use 'em for PA but they often have noisy fans (QSC) and non standard speaker posts...lots of bang for the buck but not as sweet as good modern hifi amps. The reviews of the new Cambridge integrateds are universally enthusias...
Forgotten early New Wave...
"Glass Houses" had some great songs along with the overplayed stuff. For musicians like me who had been playing rock since the 60s the whole "new wave" thing was a nice jolt out of the 70s doldrums and disco thing...as Linda Ronstadt said it was s...
Forgotten early New Wave...
I thought INXS kicked ass in those days...Big Country was another one. Peter Gabriel (!), first 2 Police albums...that was a really interesting musical era and I played a lot of that stuff in cover bands during that time. First Cars album...man......
Cart Upgrade Suggestions For Pro-Ject Carbon
The Sumiko Pearl is an amazing cartridge that doesn't garner the respect that it should...most likely because it's so inexpensive. I replaced a bright sounding AT with a Pearl earlier this year (Akito arm on a Linn Basik) and I love it. It tracks ...
Need tube 101 info
Fear not as you can have a lot of fun as a newbie "tube roller". Try to avoid the "local dealer explanation" option as the "audio salon" salespeople often (not always...there are some nice people out there) are opinionated, desperate burn outs wit...
Budget vacuum tube preamp?
I use SS into a tube amp only because I have a very low noise and capable preamp (and phono preamp), and because it's what I had when I bought the tube power amp. It sounds fabulous. I'm not sure the paranoia about preamp matching is justified tho...
Unusual TAS bomb
The value of that review was that it woke people up, although I'm not sure it was intentional. I also doubt that ARC would sell the DAC8 if it wasn't damn good, but starting from the rebuttal ARC posted to the avalanche of mail this must have gene...
Budget vacuum tube preamp?
Pacific Valve sells something inexpensive called the "YS Audio A1" that looks killer as does the remote "V2R"...their "Doge 8" seems pretty cool also, and is well regarded. The "Jolida Fusion" is also a sweet preamp...I've heard one of those and i...
Fuse burned out in shipping? ?
Is is very common for shippers to leave things on the roof of a truck during lunch breaks and while driving slowly, thus subjecting items to lightening storms and wind driven falling power lines which can blow a fuse in an otherwise packed and sea...
The Best Compliment You've Gotten On Your Rig?
I think the "golden age" of audio is now.
When to go solid state vs. vacuum?
After reading the otherwise ignored "measurements" part of a review of my speakers, I switched to the 4 ohm tap on my Jolida amp and I think it sounds better. I do use a snowblower...have to get that thing serviced.
Looking for Silent Fan Cooling f my ARC Tube AMP
A comment that uses extreme brevity and a hint of irony is a "micro crack". Also, fans have been cooling tube amps in one way or another (suck? blow?) seemingly forever, and this is the first I've heard of micro cracks...I'm suspicious...I'm going...
Preamps waste of money?
To gain absolute purity cred, you need to avoid music recorded by any method other than direct to disc, although ideally music should bypass everything and should only be listened to when performed by naked musicians using acoustic instruments pla...
