9-in arm for SPUs with easy VTA ?
Hi Anatoily,I think it does not have thumbwheel VTA but I might be mistaken. You can download the manual from Vinyl Engine if you register (it's free).RS212D on Vinyl EngineBest,Bill
12ax7 vs 5751
Dear Reynolds853:I think the rib plates have a smooth sound, which to me means the sound isn't edgy. I just think rib plates provide a little more musical information around the edges of notes than the smooth. This has also been my experience with ...
VAC Ren Mk III / Sig mkII Preamplifier with SS Amp
I, too, run a Phi Beta with Bryston 28B-SST2 amps and find the synergy to be superb.
Grills ON or Grills OFF?
Never heard speakers that sound better with grills on.
Best tube preamp ever
When you get to this level, it's a matter of taste and synergy. You should consider the top VAC models, too. They tend to be endpoints for those who've bought them.
Graham Phantom Supreme?
Very interesting, indeed! Thanks.
Nagra VPS or Tron Seven Ref phono stages?
Hi Tjnif, That's interesting that you preferred the Mac phono to the Steelhead. I had a C2300 and Steelhead II in the same system and liked the Steelhead way more. It is substantially improved by tube rolling. But irrespective of what I rolled int...
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE
Glad to hear you like your PMCs, too. I have a couple of GIK Tri-traps in my large, oddly shaped room and they help, for sure. I'm continually surprised by the quality and energy of the bass these speakers produce. Visitors look around for a sub! ...
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE
I believe I'm settling in with my PMC IB2i on custom 18-inch Sound Anchors for the duration. After 7 months, I can't find anything I don't like about them, which is a first for me. Coupling them with Bryston 28B-SST2 amps and a VAC Phi Beta preamp...
MoFi So Long So Wrong
Yeah, my copy of that Sinatra Mofi is a bit dead in the sonics, too. Not bad but not great, like you say. Milt Jackson's Invitation, on the other hand, is great sonically. My Michael Brecker's Pilgrimage is sonically so-so but my Little Feat's Sai...
Seeking floorstander for low watt SET
As Darkmobius said, we really need to know your tube to make proper recommendations. A 10/10Y or 45 has very different needs than a 300B or 845, e.g., but all may be considered low-watt SETs.
DeVore Silverbacks
I auditioned a Calypso Sig and VAC Phi Beta preamp at home using new model Bryston amps and PMC speakers. The Calypso was excellent but the VAC was a serious step up. Of course, the Calypso is around half the price; the Callisto would be the prope...
Amp suggestion for Merlins?
One more vote for Manley. I bought a pair of TSM-Mmi last spring to mate with a Stingray II and I'm extremely happy with the sound. The Manley puts out around 20w in triode or 40w in ultraliner. In my very large room, ultralinear is the way to go,...
Tube Life
VAC recommends leaving their Signature-type preamps on 24/7 unless you're going to be away from the system for an extended period. That's what they do. I was told to expect to change tubes every 5 years using this regimen. Clearly, they expect a l...
Bryston sound 'neutral' ????
I fail to see the point of this thread.
