Is High End Audio catchin' up with you all?
It is actually a 1956 MGA under the skin with a GM V6 I transplanted into it and a body by Fiberfab called a Jamaican made in the 1960s.. It is another hobby of mine.
Is High End Audio catchin' up with you all?
Well this thread took an unlikely turn - didn't expect to see cars as a subject of discussion. Best sound comes from a V12 (I miss my old Lamborghini!), next best from a straight six (sold my MGC but still have a BMW Z4MC), and after that maybe t...
What are some of your favorite "COLD" songs?
Cold Shot
30 to 50 watts seems to be all I desire
I drive really low efficiency speakers (86 dB electrostatics) with 45 watts (big Class A watts, but only a max of 45 of them) with no need for any more.
Do we really know what "Live" music sounds like?
The majority of my attendance at concerts is to classical or folk, all acoustic. The question as to the younger set is well framed though - I wonder how many attend non electrified concerts.
Amp will not power off
Yeah - I had an old Belles amp that had a power surge on turn on that would weld the switch contacts together after awhile.  I sidestepped the problem by using a heavy duty power strip - if it ever did the contacts in that in I could just replace ...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Lionel Rogg, Art of the Fugue on Angel.  Exquisite!
CDP or Transport and DAC? Recomendations?
Don’t bother with a transport, just rip all your CDs on your computer and transfer the files to a couple of redundant network attached hard drives. Put the extra money (if any) into a better DAC.
If you have a CD Player, you need to do this periodically...
If you have a CD Player, you need to do this periodically... I immediately thought "play a record or two to see how far you still have to go...'
How much gear do you own?
I have, and listen to, four systems raging from very simple to quite complex.  I had issues with getting rid of gear I have enjoyed for a long time and tend to reconfigure it into a secondary (tertiary etc....) system both for a change in listenin...
Short list of musical subwoofers
Hsu subs are excellent and well priced. I prefer (and own) a pair of powered VTF-15H MK2
Line Stage Preamps that blew you away $2500 Edition
The Conrad Johnson Premier 14 I use in my main system is the first tube preamp that really drew me in.  All of the good things that tubes can offer without any of the things that often come with that which I don't like.   Originally around $4K, ...
Not manufactured any more.
Martin Logan Monoliths   Apogee Scintillas (I own one of the few power amps capable of driving those 1 ohm amp killers, but have never been able to find a pair for sale) Vandersteen 4A (I also own a pair of those - only a few hundred made i...
Phono Preamp upgrade
I was really impressed with Hagerman value after I bought a Piccolo head amp from them to replace a step-up transformer that was introducing some noise. Dead quiet and no change in sound (the phono stage I use was a $5000 unit when new).
Finally Learned: Subs serve much larger role than adding more low bass
The PSRs have been solid as a rock. Richard gave me Hell when I sent him one of the mid-range drivers was toasted - he thought I had abused his speaker (it was really one of the mono Classe amps having a seizure and sending out a pulse that annih...
