Combining home theater with two channel I prefer two separate systems. The only commonality between my AV and audio systems are the main speakers,When I want to switch from one to the other, I just take the speaker wires out of one amp and insert them in the other - I have a tube audio...
Solid state amp to go with tube preamp; used ok; budget: $3k max A couple of older solid state amps that sound quite good.Bryston 2BRobertson 4010
The value of embellishment? Montalban was a paid flack - he took money to mispronounce 'Cordoba' for Chrysler ads and touted 'fine Corinthian leather' which didn't in fact exist.Hmm - I wonder if VPI uses Corinthian leather because it sounds better.....But hey - it opens the...
SUT Advice - Which Ones Are The Best? Don't ignore the Hagerman Piccolo 2 head amp. Dead quiet and cheap at around $300. Replaced a transformer in one system that was hard to keep from humming.
Is bass the most important frequency band? While I agree that low bass is hard to arrange, and it can muck up your sound if less than well integrated, I disagree that it is absolutely necessary for good sound. In fact I think that a system that rolls off early may be preferable to one that ...
Turntable Decision I have owned two out of three of the tables mentioned and would agree that Sota would be the best choice.I still use a first generation Cosmos in my second system!
thought on eBay? The larger purchases I have made in the audio area were all done on audio boards where feedback relates solely to audio gear, not to someone in Singapore pumping hundreds of $1 items through and giving themselves glowing feedback under fictitious...
surround processor? I have separate audio and video systems (the main speakers are shared and I just swap the speaker cables from one power amp to another).I have a fairly decent Marantz AV preamp and have listened to stereo through it. It is pretty decent but it sti...
How long does Class A have? I am a bad person.I have three Class A amps that collectively weigh over 300 lbs. and only put out 135 watts total. And I have a straight 6 powered auto that sounds sooo good at 8,000 rpm that I can't resist hearing it frequently.OTOH, unlike man...
Sonus Faber vs Wilson Which is more important to you, looks or sound?I have always held sound to be paramount, and pursued appearance only if I happened to be able to get a speaker that also looked nice.I really like the Sonus products - they are stunning in the looks ...
Emotiva I own an ERC-3 and it is a solidly built unit with at least decent sound. Most of my digital listening is done via ripped music on my network drive, but I like having the CD player to audition new material
Re-tubing a McIntosh power amp I played about with this a bit on my CJ Premier 11a. Found the GL KT88s to be by far the best. Don't know whether or not your amp allows individual tube biasing but if it does, it sure saves on not having to but matched tubes.
Is there a high quality transport that doubles as a Blue Ray player? The Emotiva seem to be pretty solid.
Used Martin Logans I have never been all that happy with the integration of the conventional bass driver with the electrostatic panels. There may well be a model out there that does it better than the ones I have listened to. (I own original CLS, all electrostat)
Analog Upgrade - Where to start? Your system is at a high level now - to try and extract even more - you are venturing into the trailing end of the graph and trying things that don't work any better - to your ear - would be quite expensive.Do what I did - put in money to acquire ... |
