Bluesound Vault position

I don't see how but I'm certain someone will disagree.

I was thinking that since there is a place to slide a CD in, it may be position sensitive, like it wouldn't sit properly on the little spinner without the parallel force of gravity. 

Interesting thought.  Try burning a few discs and see what you think.

Interesting thought.  The Vault isn’t a perfect ripper even when positioned conventionally so the only way to test this would be to buy two them and rip a bunch of discs and compare 

My thought is this. You are trying to place a square peg in a round hole. If the Vault could do this, don’t you think the engineers, designers and advertising dept would have listed that as an option? If you place it in your rack vertical and it works for a year ...then stops working, would you say the player failed? When it had feet on the bottom, but you mounted it vertically to fit in your rack? Find a place to put it on its feet.... that’s my suggestion. Or get a new rack. BTW I have a Vault2 and it works beautifully...the way it was designed to work.

Another option to explore if you can. I have two audio systems and two vertical racks. I found that running out of equipment space is a real issue. If you have enough height on 1 shelf in your rack you can make or buy a small metal, wooden or plastic table/platform. Think small miniature coffee table where the 4 legs fit around the component on your rack shelf but the underside of the table clears that component. Thus a new shelf/platform for your Vault. If you look at my two systems you will see the small wooden table I made for this purpose. Just and idea...

I've been playing music I've ripped to the hard drive and everything seems ok with that, but I haven't tried to rip anything yet...

Not sure , that would be an answer only someone who had both could tell you 

Can you turn the Vault horizontal as needed and vertical the rest of the time?  I’m sure you spent a lot more time listening than you do ripping.

Good point, curiousjim! Especially since ripping is well south of 1% of my Bluesound's function.

I ripped a bunch of CDs a while ago.  Add a few here and there.  I can pull them from the Vault over the network and put them on my Aurender’s SSD in FLAC and it sounds pretty good.  Honestly since having Qobuz for 4 years now and Tidal for a few months I can’t imagine not having a steamer.  I still play LPs but mostly stream since it has come a long way in just a few years.  
My Vault has ripped hundreds of discs and has played thousands and thousands of hours of music without a hiccup 

I transferred about 0.75 tb from the Vault to a Synology NAS several years ago, and it was a complicated, non intuitive process.  How did you “pull them over the network “?
