If I was in the US, I would look at Buckeye.
But the ones you are scheduled to hear on Sunday would be my choice in the antipodes.
And Nord amps are located somewhere else entirely (I think).
Nord (UK), Apollon (Austria), Rouge (Italy). ATM in Spain (Valencia) is very interesting, but doesn't manufacture for the US market. https://atm-audio.com/ |
@holmz Regrettably I have a heavy cold and in deference to other attendees I won't be attending Alan March's presentation today. I have tried repeatedly to phone,. message, email Alan since Friday morning but he has not responded. Very disappointing from a potential buyer viewpoint. @djones51 there seem to be numerous Nord Hypex models so which one did you buy and how do you rate it? |
In his defence, maybe he was flying. Hope you feel better soon. Old mate is about an hour away from the demo, but he is also not able to go. |
I replaced a pair of (fully upgraded by Wilson Shen) Clayton M300 mono block amps w/ Buckeye 7040 mono block amplifiers about three days ago. Dylan at Buckeye indicated that burn in improvement, if there is any would be minimal. So far I like what I’m hearing, but on some recordings there seems to be a tonal richness and feeling that you’re inside the music with the Clayton amps that I’m now missing I’ll probably use the M300 amps during the cool months of the year, and go w/ the Buckeyes when it’s hot outside. They’ve only been in for only a couple of days… so the verdict is still out. For sure they are ridiculously good at this price point. |
I just discovered Buckeye Amplifiers from the Stereophile review here. They seem to be a great sonic bargain offering low noise floors and up to high powered amplification in a small package. |
Ironically the Buckeye amp(s) that Stereophile reviewed had defective Purifi modules, hence the poor test results. There will be an updated review in July of 2025. I felt bad for Dylan who has worked so hard to get some respect (other than ASR). That said, I prefer class D with linear power supplies; ATI and Axiom to name a couple of mfg's that use that approach.
