Dumb question: How can you tell if a record is remastered?

What a difference it makes!

I just discovered that by example when I received Television's Marquee Moon from Rhino Hi-Fidelity a few days ago. It sounds excellent, but very different from the original. The OG had a kind of overall 'Fender'-y kind of sound or feeling with jangly bits and a little on the thin side. The Kevin Gray remaster sounds fat and 'Gibson'-y. Doesn't sound like a band that would have played at CBGB's. They are both excellent but I can see why some people greatly prefer one over the other.

Thanks larsman!

Anyone know if there is a website that lists whether albums are remastered or not?

I would suggest exploring Discogs. Their info differentiates which albums are original, early represses, remasters, etc..
