Given an Onkyo Integra M 504 today. Worth keeping?

i had one back in the day and it was a helluva piece--massive power and  great at low volume; also cool meters and wood sides. warm and not as transparent as modern amps--perhaps a little rolled off in the highs, but it sounded good with vinyl. looks like real world prices for these is $500-800, but i'd keep it.

That was my thought as well. Isn’t that what we all would want to happen to us? At the very least, give him a call.

We were dealers back in the day, the m508 was the one, the m504 was ok- free makes it better though

If that’s the one I think it is, it cost about a grand new, had sexy VU meters and got okay reviews.

I'd say it's absolutely worth keeping, and using.

There are a few of us Integra fans out there yet, I bet.  Onkyo was pretty decent consumer line stuff, though the Integra series was their "high end" line up that was probably similar in performance as Adcom was back in the day.

Slightly Off Topic: 

I have an Onkyo Integra 100x100 watt integrated amp that is still operating well, even after decades of use.  As mentioned, more warm than transparent, it's still a good sounding piece of equipment (especially for what I paid).   [Some of the] Onkyo Integra series cassette decks were benchmark cassette decks that sounded exceptional.  I have a TA-2070 deck that has since failed due to overuse (DJ use), but was ruler flat in response and sounded really, really good.  So, Onkyo did some products really, really well.

Hello jof!  The Integra line is Onkyo's best in audio equipment. The front ends are usually better than the power amp sections. It is likely that this model has preamp outputs. You can use them to drive outboard power amps. I have five systems (and a tolerant wife) im my home and two of them use Integra receivers in this way. There is nothing wrong with the power amp sections as long as you take them for what they are, especially if you don't like your music really loud. They are great for beginners entering the hobby!  When I can buy a used one "right" I snap them up and give them to people who want better sound at home, but are unfamiliar with serioous audio systems. HINT: Integra receivers have a protection system in them that prevents damage in the case of misuse. Once triggered, the apparant total shut down of the output stage remains locked until a simple restoration process (only mentioned once in a obscure section of the manual) is performed. I once bought one of the top of the line models that had tag reading "output section damaged" for $100 at a dealer's showroom where the trade ins were stacked in a corner. The restoration process brought it back to life and I am using it as a preamp tuner in my #3 system and use the power output section to drive guest speakers, experimental speakers, and subwoofers.
