No, this is not normal. My V1 operates just fine and zeros easily. I am still not sure what the V2 does better than the V1…unless it is more accurate.
Try replacing batteries just to experiment.
New Fozgometer V2 Can't Zero Meter
Hi All-
Just purchased and read manual as well as many forum threads on using the Fozgometer V2 including watching YouTube videos as well.
I simply cant't get the unit to display zero (0) when OFF and ON, has to be one or the other (set to zero when OFF or set to zero when ON). If you set to Zero when OFF & then turn ON it reads about 2.5. If ON and you adjust to zero & then turn OFF it reads about -2.5 (less than zero). You can't adjust to achieve zero when both ON or OFF, you would have to zero either when ON or OFF, always leaving one not zeroed.
Manuals state to zero meters ON and OFF. I adjusted in tiny increments but always bumps the other the same amount in opposite direction. Any suggestions? I would try calibrating but no access to burn a CD with tones from my Ultimate Analogue Test LP
Brand new and impossible to zero? This normal?
Thanks for any leads, Robes-
Thanks for reply. I did try the battery, actually did it 1st. I peeled the wrapper off the new battery that came with it, installed and witrh no luck zeroing the unit I removed and swithed to the AC adapter wall wart that comes with the V@. You can only run it with battery or without battery using AC. Anyhow, both ways gave identical readings. Guess my big hope here is someone chimes in who also couldn't zero the unit and maybe they have found the trick to fix without returning the unit. |
@stringreen and others- I still haven't heard back from Hi-Fi Heaven, where I bought it for the best price by far. But I did drop a text to Musical Surroundings. I'd say within 5 minuets of sending the text Ken Bowers called me. We chatted about all things related, I mentioned that I was about to do a re-calibration. Ken says no to re calibrating the new V2's, stating that more people screw it up by doing so and they are calibrated from factory and would rarely need it. He says so much of online, as well as the manuals are misinformation. Bottom line for me. So I can't adjust mechanically to zero the meter with ON/OFF zeroed meters showing (switching between ON & OFF and seeing a zero meter). I can zero the meter when ON, just leave it on while using it. If I shut it OFF it would show -1.5 (who cares, doesn't matter), I turn it back on and it is zero, so let it be. That is fine with me and doesn't matter. I got my readings and described my procedure to Ken with his agreement. He also says, although my arm looks a hair tilted high, it is that side I need to bring down thus trying to match the channel values from the high side to the lower values side. He says not to expect to match values but a couple divisions off each other is close enough, go with it. Of course, if you can match values that's good for you. Also, (as it applies to me) don't expect your tonearm to look like it changed position much. I tried all the simpler methods to set azimuth and keeping about 55% of my total tracking force distributed to my dual pivot point, I believe I was in the ball park. Obviously, Ken is saying get it as close as possible and be happy with it. That works for me, The values I got agreed with what I thought I did but as I hoped, it told me I can do better giving me a base and destination to tweak towards. I will patiently chip away at this now and also have to keep mindful of my total tracking force and weight distribution between the two pivots- Thanks everyone! Robes |
@stringreen Yes, I have a Prime. If I'm not mistaken I remember you from the old days on the VPI Forum, how I miss that, a treasure trove of info. Shortly after I bought the Prime they shut it down, really hurt, if I would have known I would have copied so much of it. Have crossed paths (actually always looked for Brf) with Brf on another forum but never figured where he hangs his hat these days. But, he contributed on a forum where I learned all about the ruby tip/skate plate and all, so I did that upgrade. He also posted on the % tracking force to apply (and how) to the additional pivot as well as using the pivot to adjust Azimuth. I did the whole Sota motor,Condor & RoadRunner upgrade (this was from readings on VPI Forum at the time), and many other upgrades to now. After this final tweaking to the setup I will finally use the Prime table (original motor never turned on). On & On I could go- Anyhow, I've read many of your posts, mostly here and there and have to say were a big influence in my decision to enter the land of Foz- Take care everyone- Robes |
