OPPO BDP-83 audio output question

Call the good folks at Oppo & ask them - I'm sure you will get a good answer.

I don't have a clue - see below for why.

If you have (or get) Vandersteen speakers (2Ce SIG II; or 3A SIG) and use his 2WQ Stereo (as in 2) subwoofers (as I do), you don't NEED "Bass-management" - just tell your pre-pro or Receiver that your fronts are FULL RANGE and forget it! [:-o)>

Does anyone here know whether the bass management in the BDP-83SE (or Marantz or Denon Blu-ray Universal players, for that matter) is consistent among all the formats it will decode and play? If I decide to buy one I will only use the analog connections to my system for audio and let the player decode everything.

However, I remember reading that earlier DVD-based universal players were often criticized for having inconsistencies in this regard and it took some time for the manufacturers to get it right. Is there any data on this issue for these players that I may have missed?

OK, I'll bite:

LFD amplification, Harbeth speakers, LFD cabling, music server connected to Benchmark Dac1 Pre. Yeah, yeah, not the orthopedic surgeon priced bling some bliss out on, but I've enough gear to know NF 83 plays (almost) all disc formats sweet e-nuf 4 me. Are u listening Jason? Where's my residual for my shameless endorsement?

Byegolly, What's in your system? What did the Oppo BDP-83SE replace? It would help us if you gave us some context. This product has created a lot of interest and a reader like me that has a Denon DVD-3910 woders if this would be an upgrade. I do love the multi-universal format feature set.

With all due respect, I'll pass on attempting a review. I'll let others better qualified submit their impressions. Sorry to titillate the fence sitters & then bow-out on the details.

Byegolly, can you give us more info and what you've been able to compare it to?

I've been using the NuForce Edition BDP-83 for about three weeks. Thank goodness I didn't purchase one of those costly universal players, or several stand alone disc players. Yes NF SE is that good. I betcha plenty of highfalutin disc players will be hitting the used market soon enough because Oppo SE and NF SE.

I would like to see a "de-embedder" that will output coax/optical from multichannel SACD/DVD-A other than the Meridian HD621 which works only with Meridian processors. There are some others which are, officially, illegal. I have one. ;-)

Slanski62, I know the question is directed toward the BDP-83. However, the BDP-83SE is an entirely different animal with a much better chipset. I have ordered the Nuforce edition and I think it will probably beat my Reimyo.

I'm just starting to learn about high resolution audio. From what I understand, DVD-A and multichannel SACD will output high resolution signals only via HDMI. Neither my pre/pro nor my DAC has HDMI. The audio de-embedder strips the high resolution audio signal from the HDMI and converts it to either coax or optical, so that it can be accepted by other devices. I don't care to use the analog outs because I'm pretty sure my DAC is superior to the one built in to the OPPO.

What I tried to do was ,use HDMI to tv. A center channel
so to speak. I then used the two channel out to my two channel stereo. Won't work as there is a time delay between
the two formats. Oppo says no way to fix. Worked great
that way with my older Toshiba 9200( No HDMI ).

Why not use the optical out if you want to feed your DAC?

Yes but what's an HDMI de-embedder and why not use the analog outs for all purposes? Most folks who use both keep the analog for stereo and the HDMI for multichannel.
