hey, I'm going to sell off my audio system. some of the stuff I can sell over the internet (electronics, cables, etc.) but some of the stuff would be a pain to ship: Argent Room Lens(s)...custom bass traps, Velodyne 18" sub, Walker Audio custom rack...Valid Points, etc... anyone in the Philly area interested? pete's main system: Sony SCD-1; Threshold T2; McCormack DNA 0.5 revision A+ monoblocks (balanced, many extras); Nordost Quattro Fil/SPM; Power Plant; boxes and boxes of esoteric cables and such like. You can't have the speakers. |

Imasyko, I've sent you an email offlist with some additional information. Thanks for your interest! For others in the area, our next meeting is an open house at the retail store of one of our members, Quest for Sound, 2307-R Bristol Pk, Bensalem PA 19020, on Sunday, September 18, beginning at noon and continuing to 5 PM. Several manufacturers will be on hand demonstrating equipment in various rooms. Please feel free to join us if the date works for you. Other activities are scheduled through the fall. . |
Hello. I live in Center City. I'm trying to become more knowledgeable about audio in order to keep improving my system. I have had lots of good results having equipment modified by a local audio technician, but I'm clueless when it comes to selecting equipment and accessories. At the moment I'm trying to figure out tube amps and speaker loads. I use vinyl and digital (redbook CD) sources; analog generally sounds better to me, even old worn out LPs. Digital can come close with a good DAC and a good recording, though there don't seem to be enough of the latter. If the group is open, please let me know. I've got lots of room and could host, though my own system would probably seem a little underdeveloped at the moment except maybe for the Museatex Bidat, a Meitner designed DAC, recently upgraded by a former colleague of the designer. Thanks Bob |
Saturday, November 6: Many of us will be converging on Overture's open house at noon on this Saturday. If you'd like to make connection with the group, please ask around. You're bound to bump into one or another of us! Saturday, November 20: Group trip to Red Trumpet in York, who are hosting us once again. Talk about kids in the candy store! Thank you, Red Trumpet. . |
Our next meeting is September 26: an Audio Demo with Doug Hoglund, owner and designer of Granite Audio electronics http://www.graniteaudio.com/, and Rusty Taub, national sales manager for Von Schweikert Audio http://www.vonschweikert.com. Doug will have full set of his very well designed Granite tube electonics driving Von Scheikert VR-4JR speakers in one room. Andy will have the new Von Schweikert DB-99's in another room being driven by a full line of Consonance tube gear, including the Cyber 211 SET monoblocks. Both CD and vinyl will be playable. If you would like to get acquainted with the Philadelphia Area Audio Group, post a reply here and a member of the group will contact you with more informantion. . |
Hi Dan, Sunday, September 26 is spoken for. Steve and Joe T. have arranged a demo at a dealer's location with Granite electronics and Von Schwiekert speakers. I don't know if trying to do two demos in rapid succession will be good for the group, we'd need to pose the question on the mailing list. Remember that you can go to the PAAG web site on Yahoo Groups to see the email archive and see the discussion about this demo date and the recent group trip to Red Trumpet. For the Granite/von S. demo, see Steve's emails on 7/21 and 7/27. Rush |
I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to post this or not.... I'm new to the King of Prussia area and am looking for local audio stores where I can audition some speakers and I figured this would be a great place to ask! The closer to KOP the better, ideally under 20 miles! please just respond to my email address: geoffgarcia@hotmail.com so as not to take this thread off topic! thanks !Geoff! |
Two activities coming up: regular bi-monthly meeting this Sunday, July 18; group trip to Red Trumpet in York, PA, at the end of July. If you're anywhere in the area and have an interest in participating with us, drop me a note. . |
Rick, we currently meet roughly every other month in the home of one member or another. While most of us live in the greater Philadelphia area, we have some members living further away. In fact, our next meeting is being hosted by a member in the Lancaster area in mid-March, and our last meeting in January was in New Jersey. Our group is very informal. Generally, folks enjoy the opportunity to get together every other month or so to share conversation, listen to some music and, perhaps, hear someone else's music system. Mostly, we seem to just enjoy getting together with others who enjoy this crazy hobby of ours and for whom talking about audio and music is not a strange foreign language! Love to have you join us. If you will contact me directly via Audiogon, I'll be happy to get in touch with you with more details. Please include your direct email address and home phone number. Regards, |
I am interested in a possible audio and/or video club in Delaware. I would like to start one at my home if others would like. I live in central Delaware. drbarney1@juno.com is my address. I am also interested in any other activity in Delaware. I use 45 SET amplifiers with dual outputs and electronic filters that circumvent the need for speaker crossovers. I design and build my own amplifiers. I have nothing against other approaches to sound systems; i.e. push pull amplifiers, horn speakers, and even solid state things. |
Hi, I'm interested in joining an audio club. Although I live 50 miles northwest of Phila, I work in Phila and spend my week there. My system consists of a Sonograph SD-1 for CD and a Rega Planar 2 W/ a Grado Reference Platinum cartridge and an Audio Alchemy VAC in the Box phono preamp for vinyl. A Conrad Johnson PV-8 preamp and two Golden Tube Audio SE 40's run mono to drive the top end of a pair of Snell A III's and a Adcom GFA 555 to drive the bottom end of the snells. I also have a Creek OBH-11 headphone amp and a pair of Sennheiser HD 570 headphones. I'm currently driving the Snells with the Adcom as I'm having trouble with the GTA's. I'm looking for someone to fix them and maybe upgrade them. I can be contacted via Audiogon. |
Invitation... Our next gathering is Sunday, November 9, from 2:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m. at my house. If you live in the Philadelphia area, and would like to meet some other folks who also enjoy good music reproduction, we'd love to have you join us. The focus of this meeting will be sharing some great music while exploring what one vinylholic's playback system can do with those old-fashioned 12" disks. If you've not already attended one of our meetings and would like to join us on the 9th, please send me an e-mail through Audiogon with your full name and home telephone number (no cell phones, please). I'll call you with directions. |
Rushton,Dan, and others: I don't know if you've been following my Southern NJ club thread, but I am offering my home and system for listening and fellowship for folks on both sides of the river as well. I have heard from a couple of folks so far but have yet to set a date. If you are interested, let me know through the AudiogoN emailer. Thanks for posting this. |
Dan, thank you for hosting the meeting at your house today. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the visit and your excellent hospitality! For those who were able to come, it was nice to re-connect with you and to share updates on what we've been doing. All in all, this was a very enjoyable afternoon of good music and even better fellowship. I look forward to having everyone join us at my house Sunday, November 9. For those whose email address I have, I will be sending driving directions later in October. If I don't have your email address, please contact me. Best regards, |
Hi, My name is Dan. I am a Wolcott Audio dealer and I live in the Media, Pa area. I was hoping to restart the informal listening sessions initiated by Rushton and a few others, so I would like to host a session Sunday, September 28 from 1 to 5. Also, Rushton has offered to be a host again on Sunday, November 9 from 2 to 5. We were hoping this might encourage others to post similar offers for the following months, maybe one session bi-monthly to start, to try to get a schedule established. If you're interested in coming over, please send me an e-mail through Audiogon with your direct e-mail address, your name and your home telephone number (no cell phones, please). I'll call you with directions. Feel free to bring some music. I have a two-channel system with a standard CD player and a NAD turntable. Thanks |
Hello all! I am a music fan from birth. I started getting serious about quality home sound reproduction in the late 80's. My pace of progress has been slow, but fun. I have builts TLs, vents, electrostatics and closed boxes over the years. My current primary source is a Merrill modified AR-1. I'm looking to make the leap to tubes with maybe single drivers, Ariels or Hammers. Would love to hear a Dynaco or Eico (was very unimpressed by a Cary against my ss Exposure integreted a year ago). Count me in on some listening sessions in the future. I'll keep checking back. Thank you Rushton for getting the ball rolling. Sincerely, Brad |
Hi Dave. The group is highly informal, with no official structure or membership. We're sort of waiting for the next seminar suggestion or listening session to be made and attract people's attention. It's spring. Should I try that local speaker manufacturer again? Did anyone go to Montreal? Going to the June San Francisco show? |
Welcome, Barney. There is no geographic limit as far as I am concerned. If you would like to join any of our activities, you will be very welcome! Generally speaking, when another group activity is scheduled, one of us will announce it here in the Audiogon forum. If you have more questions, please feel free to e-mail me directly. Best regards, |
I know of someone online in a different context who goes by the moniker "Nerfherder", and I want to join in thanking Rushton for hosting our assembly. Maybe it's time again to bring up the standing invite I'm pretty sure we have to the high end dealer in Wilmington. Would that be of interest? If so, we also need to know what kinds of times are good for people in case the preferred Sunday afternoon is not an option. I'll wait for some feedback here or off the list. Thanks. Hugh |
