For several years I used Origin Live mats on both my GAE and my VPI HW-40. A few months ago I switched to the newer Origin Strata. I could not believe the improvement. It is well worth the price, at 295 British Pounds, money back guarantee. You can't go wrong. One word of advice, Origin offers a special reduced size mat for Technics TTs, I don't like it, it looks funny. Buy the standard size mat. Either size works fine and sounds the same to my ears, I own both as bought one for my VPI too. BTW, I have tried them all, including a mega buck paper thingy from Japan that sounded pretty good too, but this Strata beats them all hands down. |
You can’t go wrong with SAEC SS-300 mat. It fits SP-10MKII platter, SP-20, SL1210mkII platter, i mostly using my SS-300 on Luxman PD-444. Saec SS-300 alloy mat (870g) eliminates the distortion-producing resonance in the 200-400Hz range, which is common to most all conventional rubber mats. This results in a 10~20dB net reduction in overall resonance, to further reduce distortion at its source. Some cartridges are sensivite to the rotor under the platter, felt mats can’t solve the problem. Honestly, I don’t know any better matt for the price under $400 |
