Willy Hermann has gone through each of my three Nakamichi cassette decks: ZX-9; RX-505; CR-7A. As you would expect, they all have sounded amazing after being serviced by Willy. About five years ago, I bought a Nak Dragon from Willy. He called me and told me that he had a request from a medical records company to transcribe their records to magnetic tape, so (at his request) I sold it back to him. You won't meet a nicer guy than Willy, and I appreciated all the work he had done for me, but even today I wonder "what was I thinking."
UPDATE: Cassette Store Day is now Cassette Store Week! Just found out about this, sorry for the late news, but it's still going strong. I bought a couple of titles. These have always been pretty obscure, but I like supporting the independants.
A Nakamichi ZX-7 just completely gone through by Willy Hermann is in play in my listening/living room. Listening to a live Springsteen concert that I was actually at, but someone else recorded with a Sony Pro recorder, captured the entire concert of some three hours+. Surprisingly good sound.
I went to a local estate sale today and picked up over $200 worth of sealed, blank type II & IV cassette tapes, (Fuji, Maxell, TDK) and over 600 pre-recorded cassette tapes in excellent condition for...a whoppin' $25!
They even threw in quite a few cassette holders/cases/drawers.
Still going through them, but I think I did okay :-)
Mother Love Bone was a band that I never got a chance to really get into. I wasn’t aware, (until I just looked it up), that in a roundabout way, Pearl Jam was formed from their ashes. Also, I never knew that "Apple" was their only album.
Thanks for posting this! I love learning about new things, especially audio/music related.
Don’t you just hate that! Got to end of side 2 and the tape pulled right off the hub and now junk as a sealed case....grrrrrrr.
Knock on wood, that hasn't happened to me in ages. I used to have a deck (can't remember which one) that always snapped the tape at the end. Never could get it to work correctly. Think I threw it away. Bummer dude!
