Where should the better of two sets of cables go?

The "best sound" is obtained by YOU trying them in both spots and letting your ears do the judging. Very simple. No one here can help with that.

The empirical method is the way to determine this. Do the experiment.

Thanks Guys From what I gather here it sounds like a set of dedicated phono cables would be my best bet? I appreciate all of your input and like Erik says I should experiment and see whats works best. Al I since upgraded to a 20X2, you all know the upgrade fever when it strikes!!!

+1 @erik_squires   I would suspect the better cable should be coming out of the VPI because you are passing along a millivolt signal, already low in level so you don't want to lose or corrupt it.

In this particular case, listening and experimentation are the only good guides.

I see in one of your other threads that you are using a Dynavector 10X5 high output moving coil cartridge.

Given that, if there is a substantial difference in the capacitance of the two interconnects I suspect it would be best to use the one having lower capacitance to connect the turntable to the phono stage. (And keep in mind that for a given cable type capacitance is proportional to length).

Beyond that, IMO the only way to tell with any kind of certainty is to try it both ways. Although I suspect that a majority of others who may respond will suggest putting the "better" cable (which may or may not be the one having lower capacitance) between the turntable and the phono stage.
