Wywires Silver to Platinum interconnects. How big an upgrade would that be ?
I currently have Silver RCAs on my solid state phono stage. Impressive cable, so I am thinking of trying Platinum. Would be buying used. I also have Tchernov Reference MK II and Purist Neptune in my system. Wywires Silver and the Tchernov are similar, I would say the former has more elegance and the latter a little more power of delivery. Neptune is very different and works great everywhere in my system but best between preamp and amp.
That's how I got the Silver, I asked Alex if he had some demo cables and he did. Exactly. Dynamics is just right, nothing is exaggerated, detailed but not overly so, no harshness. Also, I may be wrong but I suspect that somehow his Litz copper matches well with my Nottingham tonearm Litz wiring harness that goes into the phono stage. I didn't try it with digital because I currently don't have any digital in my system.
I think Alex would give you an honest opinion if you reached out to him. Always been straightforward with me and doesn’t oversell to you if he doesn’t think it’ll make a difference.
Are you using WyWires Silvers throughout including power cables?
I did ask Alex, he said that the difference would be considerable. He also did offer me a demo for a good price, but that price was still too high for me and I was not sure, anyway. No, he was very reserved, just offered to upgrade - he would take the Silver demo back. adg101, no this is my only Wywires cable in the system. I have no intention to replace my other cables, at least for now, just one cable for the phono stage. How are his power cords ? In fact, I might want to try one on the phono later.
I like his power cords a lot but admit I haven’t tried everything under the sun. I’ve tried some PS Audio, Shunyata Sidewinders I’ve owned, Pangea, Tributaries, and still own a couple Kimber Kable PK10 Golds which are pretty nice too.
Currently I use a mix of WyWires Silver Juice II on all my analog gear with a HC model on amp. I find the WyWyires do a great job of just getting out of the way as they don’t draw attention to themselves. Very natural sound with no HiFi in your face sound. The HC version on my amp really made my Pass wake up. I’m very happy with the power cables. The Kimbers are very good but maybe a little closed in and soft in comparison, but still very nice.
I thought the Silver Juice II’s did a fine job on my digital front end pieces but prefer Nordost Vishnu’s currently. I know Alex makes a digital version now that if I wasn’t already very happy with my Vishnu’s I might try them.
Also using WyWires Silver speaker cables and jumpers which replaced my Clear Day Cables Double Shotgun/jumpers. Again the WyWires to my ears just sound less HiFi and disappear. Was using Clear Days throughout minus power cables and was very happy with the Clear Days... just prefer the WyWires.
I have no doubt Alex’s upper models are better but I’m very satisfied with the Silver Line for now and instead of spending more money to upgrade cables I’m spending the money on Vicoustics room treatment and just picked up a used PS Audio P5 that has transformed my system more than I think Cables for the same amount of money would do; amp still plugs directly into the wall.
Bsck to original question; yes I am very happy with my WyWires Juice II PC’s. If you’re looking for one on an amp definitely do the HC version, for a phono preamp the standard Juice II would work well. My ModWright LS36.5 sounds great with the standard Juice II.
Yeah, the Silver line appears to be very successful and is still moderately priced. Platinum is $1800 retail for 1 Meter pair, it might be adequate or not, I don't know. The Silver, judging by RCA interconnects and USB cable, certainly is. It is overall almost as good as Tchernov Reference MK II, $1500 cable, in my system, and is slightly better in some areas.
WyWires , yes excellent!!! I run a complete "Silver Series" interconnects, speaker cables, as well as all Juice 2 PCs. I have a Silver Series Litespd SPDiF and a Platinum AES balanced to my Yggdrssil You could not go wrong with the Platinum interconnects. But, expensive yes. WyWires are very hand labor intensive to make hence the price. They have the ability to work extremely well together on all kinds of equipment.
You convinced me to give it a try. I have no doubts it will be better than Silver, just don't know to what extent. Found one for an acceptable price. Could get new Purist Aqueous Luminist for about the same but I am quite sure that WyWires Platinum would be better with the phono stage in my current system. If I could get Purist Neptune for a comparable price - that would be tough, but you can never find used Neptune and new is now probably close to $1500.
Awhile ago I had a borrowed pair of the Platinum interconnrcts didn’t comment in detail because it had been some time. But I remember thinking where did all the bass come from, they were on a Chord Cute DAC at the time. Very distinct bass, not a bad thing for vinyl. You won’t be disappointed along with the Silver they will have very good tone and separation. Please let us know what you think.
Sure will. I will have them next week. What am I going to do with the Silver ? I don't want to sell it but I don't have more equipment to put it on ! Except cd player in the closet that I use twice a year or so. Hmm..I'll figure it out.
I actually got acquainted with WyWires almost by an accident. I was not going to do any upgrades in the near future, I just wanted to add heaphone amp to my system for night time listening. So I looked and read around a little and Burson Audio original Soloist caught my eye. And since I thought this would not be a critical listening anyway I would use some entry level cables from my Redgum integrated tape outs. But, the Soloist is also a Class A preamp, and when I received it first thing I did out of curiosity was to put it between the source and the integrated. The Redgum has a passive preamp section and the Burson has three gain level settings - great idea. Also, the Redgum doesn't even have amp in input, I plugged the Burson right into the line in input. And it has been staying there ever since. It improved the sound in almost every aspect except resolution, which might be very very slightly down. Soundstage remained the same or a touch better. Well, now I needed real cables, and since I couldn't find any used Purist Neptune or Tchernov Reference MK II, that work very well in my system, I somehow thought that WyWires could complement them. And the Silver did. I expect the Platinum to take it further. Putting $1800 interconnect on $1200 phono stage is somewhat extravagant, though before I inserted the Burson in the chain I had $1500 Tchernov there. I don't have a high resolution system, it is a very solid mid-fi, but the system is very sensitive and can be taken to a totally different performance level with great cables and power cords. I tried $100-$700 cables and cords before I settled for what I have now, it was totally inadequate, though not a bad sound.
I had a Redgum RGI 120 ENR and it was the best solid state amp I had heard. Not very well known. WyWires silvers of course. Talk about slam, it had it. Should not have sold it. It was actually too much for my room. It made me treat my whole room. Currently using a Rogue Cronus Mag ll and my special tube sauce. Love tubes. Enjoy !
The weak point of Redgum is the power supply - the amp plays great when the wall current is good and it sounds like crap when it isn't. I have the original RGi120 made in 2001, considered by some best sounding. Perhaps it was designed for different time, not that I would expect top power supply in $1.5k integrated, but still it could've been better. I've had it for seven years and would only upgrade to Gryphon or some Swiss integrated if I wanted to continue with integrated amps, which in fact I don't but might have to.
Got them today, unexpectedly earlier than I thought. They appear to be fully burnt in but I'll see. This is preliminary because I only listened with Grado RS1 Classic headphones and Burson Soloist headamp. I also made recording directly off the phono stage on Maxell Vertex tape, Nakamichi 682ZX tape deck, and listened thru the Naks headphone amp. The results of both comparisons were the same. Alex's choice of words "considerably better than Silver" was absolutely correct. Please understand that the Silver is a really excellent cable but.. The Platinum sounds deeper, fuller, more confident, a touch warmer with better instrument and note separation. More sophisticated while maintaining a kind of soaring elegance to it. Silence is even more silent. Overall it just sounds significantly nicer and more natural. It feels like a complete design, something was to a degree missing in the Silver that is not in the Platinum. Definitely less distortion and more details. I'll get back to this next week when I have an opportunity to listen thru speakers.
Alex has my Audio Karma cable cooker. All wires need a bit of settling. Considerably Better, should be for double the price of the Silver Series $800 Platinum $1600 Retail. All nice cables!!!
After 15 hours of play the difference between Silver and Platinum became larger. So if you can find it used go for Platinum, you are very unlikely to regret it. I can see that some dealer sells new it here for $1150, full retail is $1800. Between WyWires Platinum and Tchernov Reference MK II...close, very close in my system, and I only have analog sources. I prefer WyWires with acoustic music, it is a little more sophisticated, and it is a nearly a draw with electric with Tchernov having a very slight edge because it is a touch more powerful. I could live happily with either and I will - I need them both. Silver goes to ebay.
Those of you using the wywires juice 2 power cords.. Still using them and happy?
I'm looking to get two power cords and am considering my options. As of now I have several triode Wire Labs power cords ranging from 10, 7, digital to obsession. Have some atlas and AQ power cords too.
Was thinking of trying the wywires platinum digital and high current cords, just out of curiosity. But haven't seen any recent reviews.
I use Silver Juice Digital with the Burson Audio DAC. It is very clear and balanced, just like Wywires RCAs. Could use a bit more power and could have a deeper bass and better soundstage. I did not compare Wywires power cords, only RCA interconnects, but still I would probably suggest getting Platinum instead of Silver. Diamond should be great, if it is as good as RCA. That's what I currently use in the main system.
Have Silver Juice II, Standard, Digital and HC (High Current) versions and on power amps the HC version definitely will give you more slam. The standard Juice II sounded very good on my Pass X250 but the HC version is noticeably better on my Pass. I recently purchased a couple Platinum HC power cords and they are definitely better than the Silver Juice II HC. The Platinums are smoother or relaxed and draw less attention to themselves… definitely better. My speaker cables and IC’s are Silver series and will be selling those off to move to Platinum. If Platinum is in your budget I’d suggest going there but if not the Silver series are still great cables. Very open and natural sounding cables.
I don’t find WyWires thin at all, if anything the opposite. What they’re known for in my opinion and what I’ve read is they are very open and throw a wide stage. Can’t speak for the Blue Series, but I run both Silver and Platinum. I suppose if one is looking for a cable that has a narrow stage and more forward sounding then maybe they would think WyWires are thin, but I don’t think so. Very neutral cables that just get out of the way and don’t draw attention to being bright or bass heavy, but it’s all there but balanced. Great cables and usually move fast on the used market so don’t wait around.
Anybody compare the WyWire Platinum or Diamond speaker cables to anything else. I have Audience and WyWire RCA + XLR interconnects on 2 systems. I am trying to decide between getting a second Audience FrontRow speaker cable (using with a CODA #8 amp) or try the WyWire speaker cables. The amp will be a KRELL Duo 175XD and the speaker will be both a Thiel CS3.7 and RAAL SR1a headphones. I rotate the KRELL and CODA amps between the 2.
BTW - WyWire cables are 40% off since I started buying them back in Sept 2021. I emailed Alex yesterday and the 10th anniversary sale is still going on in 2022.
