Mundorf (non-oil) Silver / Gold EVO MCap Supreme coupling caps in your tube amp ???
I replaced Solen FC coupling and bypass caps in my Consonance M800SE monoblocks with Clariycap MR's. For a resonable price gave better accuracy, detail and integration top to bottom. Thanks. Definitely want to hear back from others who’ve actually heard or tried these newer Mundorf Silver/Gold (non-oil) EVO Supreme caps. I found the Clarity MR caps to be a little dry. The Jensen Copper Oils were nice and wet, and maybe even a tad slow in my amp. I would have ran them again but my amp has twelve (12) EL34 power tubes, gets pretty hot; i.e. don’t want to deal with oil cap failure a few years down the road. Hopefully these EVO supreme non-oil silver gold caps may fit somewhere between. That would be nice. Can't wait to get them, install them, and break them in. Heard that could take up to at least 100hrs as well. We'll see I guess. |

Very good, this helps me to place the Mundorf Silver/Gold EVO caps among others following the sound description provided in the review. I'm curious about various differences you noticed switching form the V-Caps to these Mundorfs. Other than smoother, what else did you notice in comparison... ? |
decooney, To answer your question the best that I can,always remember audio is highly subjective and everyone hears things differently. Using Vcaps in amps and crossovers always gave me a lean and more neutral midrange and I prefer just the opposite. Also in direct comparison in my Yamamoto amp between vcaps and mundorf evo's I found also the evo's to have a better sounding top end meaning more natural and forgiving to worst sounding recordings. I found the bass to be quite equal with either cap and I can't say there was any overall detail missing anywhere with the Evo. Dueland makes a small .01 uf bypass cap which I would like to try sometime may make a nice difference in some crossovers in my newest speakers and or amps. UPDATE: Doing more research and getting updates about these particular Mundorf Supreme Oil vs S/G non-oil caps, found this. Heat is definitely an issue with my tube amp with 12 output tubes and 4 pre-driver tubes. Runs hotter. This was on the Dynacotubeaudio forum from a few years back. A member in Germany worked directly with Mundorf on this inquiry. I’m sticking with the non-oil Mundorf EVO Silver Gold cap order. Similar to SIO caps. Still running copper oil caps in my tube preamp though. re: Tube Amps, quote - "As far as the SIO caps are concerned the max recommended ambient temparature is 70C degrees celsius. That does not mean they immediately die if it gets hotter. They used to be higher (85), but were reduced as they leaked oil in some rare cases, especially tube amps (the viscosity of the oil changes with heat). They never were rated at only 50C degrees. The Silver / Gold ones are ok up to 85C degrees ambient temperature.", unquote. |
