Jazz for aficionados

Jazz for aficionados

I'm going to review records in my collection, and you'll be able to decide if they're worthy of your collection. These records are what I consider "must haves" for any jazz aficionado, and would be found in their collections. I wont review any record that's not on CD, nor will I review any record if the CD is markedly inferior. Fortunately, I only found 1 case where the CD was markedly inferior to the record.

Our first album is "Moanin" by Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers. We have Lee Morgan , trumpet; Benney Golson, tenor sax; Bobby Timmons, piano; Jymie merrit, bass; Art Blakey, drums.

The title tune "Moanin" is by Bobby Timmons, it conveys the emotion of the title like no other tune I've ever heard, even better than any words could ever convey. This music pictures a person whose down to his last nickel, and all he can do is "moan".

"Along Came Betty" is a tune by Benny Golson, it reminds me of a Betty I once knew. She was gorgeous with a jazzy personality, and she moved smooth and easy, just like this tune. Somebody find me a time machine! Maybe you knew a Betty.

While the rest of the music is just fine, those are my favorite tunes. Why don't you share your, "must have" jazz albums with us.

Enjoy the music.

Exactly, no one is stopping anyone from anything and you state the obvious. As far as the “strawman” allusion goes, I fail to see your point. Your fallback “straw man” thing is getting a little tired, btw.

**** The OP should be able to say what is, and what is not, appropriate for this thread ****

Who said he can’t? Want to talk “strawman”?

If all the bs that ensues when the thread gets derailed by the controversial comments does not constitute “altering the path of the thread” then I don’t know what does. Perhaps you enjoy the controversy and the ensuing negativity. I don’t.
frog, you and acman3 picked up on the new (jazz) game quite nicely.

Here's another from that Manhattan Transfer album -

Rok, we have been down this path countless times before; no matter what you say after Frogman gets through with it, it's going to be something else, you won't even know what you said.

I think from here on out I'll just let Frogman write my posts and save me the trouble.

*****Your fallback “straw man” thing is getting a little tired*****

Well then, you can imagine how tired we are of you doing it.

*****Perhaps you enjoy the controversy and the ensuing negativity. I don’t. *****

Most often, when the OP goes off on one of his kool-aid induced rants, I am the only one that responds.   I can assure you, I have no negative feelings towards anyone.

Now, if folks get negative feelings just from reading what the OP says, then that's a whole different conversation.   Then the OP is not the problem.

Cheers
