Jazz for aficionados
I'm going to review records in my collection, and you'll be able to decide if they're worthy of your collection. These records are what I consider "must haves" for any jazz aficionado, and would be found in their collections. I wont review any record that's not on CD, nor will I review any record if the CD is markedly inferior. Fortunately, I only found 1 case where the CD was markedly inferior to the record.
Our first album is "Moanin" by Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers. We have Lee Morgan , trumpet; Benney Golson, tenor sax; Bobby Timmons, piano; Jymie merrit, bass; Art Blakey, drums.
The title tune "Moanin" is by Bobby Timmons, it conveys the emotion of the title like no other tune I've ever heard, even better than any words could ever convey. This music pictures a person whose down to his last nickel, and all he can do is "moan".
"Along Came Betty" is a tune by Benny Golson, it reminds me of a Betty I once knew. She was gorgeous with a jazzy personality, and she moved smooth and easy, just like this tune. Somebody find me a time machine! Maybe you knew a Betty.
While the rest of the music is just fine, those are my favorite tunes. Why don't you share your, "must have" jazz albums with us.
Enjoy the music.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFH7YQ-2U2w frogman glad to hear that Benny Golson is still alive. I've been listening to this LP including him and all the compositions were written by him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBX9_bSh9rE |
***** you are not talking about the one who escalated the war in Vietnam are you" in response to the describing Lyndon Johnson as the person who did the most for blacks. I noticed no response to that!!***** What’s one thing to do with the other? Although Vietnam was the first war in which all groups in this country fought fully integrated, which went a long way towards cementing civil rights in this country. ***** had he lived he probably would have been the one to sign the Civil Rights bill. Why can’t others accept that?***** Are you saying people should "accept" something that never happened? Sounds like coulda, shoulda, woulda to me. LBJ actually DID IT. Why can’t you accept that? Your statements show how illogical and conflicted a lot of people are when it comes to history. There is real history, and then, there is that, that they wish was history. They can’t separate the facts from what they wished had happened. In ANY society, the ignorant and uninformed, will always be played. Cheers |
Rok, for obvious reasons often I do not take you very serious, in fact, as younger population would say, I find that some of your posts are quite 'sick', in a funny way. Than,I've read the last one, about 'war' and it left me perplexed, to say at least. I do not believe that calling that statement childlish or cynical would change your 'opinion' and certainly this is not the place for such exchange of words. I can only guess that you probably have not seen much of war from first hand, otherwise you might have very diferent opinion. Again, do not want to sound too pathetic, but people who live in these parts of the world had an 'opportunity' to witness it, some more, some less, and I can assure you, it does not look like in the movies at all.... warning, next link is qiute disturbing....one of many, ugly, faces of war.... https://youtu.be/xV2-Zty_OmA |
Alex, The Bible says there will always be wars and rumors of wars. The Bible also says Cain killed his brother Able when there were only a handful of people in the world. Now that may not be literally true, but the Bible is a great source of information on human nature and conduct. The story shows that man will ALWAYS find a reason to fight and kill each other. Always. We can also let the record reflect that, Rok2id, has never started a war. War not like the movies? Dang!! I thought you grabbed your shoulder, shouted "they got me", and then, all your comrades would gather around while you, with your last breath, dictated an hour long letter to Mom and your girl friend. You mean to say it's not like that??? is ANYTHING true in the world?? Cheers Btw, people in your part of the world have been fighting and hating forever. Til this day. |
