I met my wife in Ukraine (long story) and her exposure to music was nothing more than a really cheap boombox.
Coming to America and seeing my setup which was at the time a pair of Def Tech BP2000's AR15 pre Classe DAC 1, Theta Transport and a pair of Classe amps, she really didn't understand what that all meant. She loved the music however and now 7 years later has been on-board with all our stereo purchases. She has very keen ears and has spent countless evenings critiqing tubes, cables, positioning, you name it. She picked the last pair of speakers we purchased, our MBL 121's. When I bought the line arrays (LS6's) she wanted the bigger ones (LS9's). I had to talk her into the smaller ones as they would reach nearly to the ceiling!
Although we aren't by any means wealthy, most of our cash has gone to audio. I think we're bad for each other in that way. We've spent a crazy amount of money on audio and listen almost nightly.
Rare indeed :) Oh ya, I married her.
