tablejockey Can anyone make the comparison of a good ol fashion FM tube tuner against one of the current streaming units? As with so many things in audio, it depends, in particular on the quality of the stream itself. There’s no way FM can compete sonically with Tidal, Qobuz, or even a Radio Paradise FLAC stream. FM tends to fare better when compared to something like Spotify or Pandora, but of course it also depends on the sonics of the FM station you’re using as a benchmark. There aren’t too many fine-sounding FMs these days, at least in the US. There are still some things worth listening to on FM - at least where I live - so I keep my Mac tuner in the rack. But I’d never spend that kind of money on a tuner today. (It cost me $2,000 around 1980; that’s the equal of about $6,500 today.) |
