Absolutely, build them. Here are some designs for Mark Audio drivers, and there are loads more of course. https://frugal-phile.com/boxes-markaudio.html We built my son’s monitors for his studio using Mark Audio’s Alpair 11MS drivers in a solid cherrywood cabinet made by his grandad. Ported and they go pretty low, 50hz, so a sub in a corner helps at time. But they are shallow and fit on his work desk easily. They sound fantastic, and being (very nearly) full range with no crossover they are particularly good for monitoring the mid-range. Stefan at KJF Audio is fantastically helpful and stocks everything you need. https://www.kjfaudio.com |
Thanks all. Yes, been considering building my own as well. Would be fitting for the workroom right? Looked at the GR Research site but nothing front ported or sealed. I will peruse the others, thanks for the links. Multiple speakers might be the way to go at some future point. Good idea! About to cut up a gorgeous chunk of solid 10/4 Maple for my first amp stand. Measure 10x and cut once! |
