I have a BHK preamp and my favorite is the Amperex 7316 made in the Heerlen factory in the Netherlands. They can be labelled for other companies too. I recently bought some with the Mullard label. If you’re familiar with the Phillip’s etched codes, the 7316’s tube type is Ct.
To my ear, this tube just adds a sweetness to the music that just makes me want to listen more.
The 7316 is a variant of the 12AU7 that, from all that I’ve read, is compatible with the 12AU7. I've never had a problem subbing it for a 12AU7.
Unfortunately, they are expensive and, having just checked ebay, people are selling some pretty shoddy tubes at NOS prices. But you may want to keep your eye open for a nice pair at a reasonable price.
