Replacement Remote Control For Cary SLP 05 Preamp

Hi
I was wondering if anyone has successfully replaced their remote control for the SLP 05 with a generic one or a universal learning remote and care to share their experience.
I have the old small 3 button one that only does volume up, down and mute. It is becoming a tad unresponsive lately and I presume it cannot be repaired.

Cary only stocks a full feature one where all the other functions are redundant for the SLP 05 and it costs $125 plus shipping.
Just wondering if I can replace it more cost effectively.
Thanks

My Direct TV remote had some dead buttons and then it stopped working period (we do have a spare though).

I tried various batteries, contact cleaner, burying it in rice and even vacuuming the thing with no joy to come.

I finally tried slapping the holy crap out of it and now it's working like new.

I’ve been using these for years. Copy your remote commands to it in case the original is lost or broken. If it takes the commands the problem might be the IR receiver.

I use one to control me pre, sub level and DAC.
If it were I, I would break down and spend the $125.00 on the all in one remote.  After all, we blow hundreds of dollars on a cable, what’s 125 for a remote?
I wouldn’t think twice about spending the $125 for the remote even if you fix your original. Mine is still working but everything is a little slower.
you can get a used harmony 650 for >$30 and add the cary in less than a minute + use it for all your other components, program macros, etc. one of my favorite toys.
