@reubent Tom, I have the 2nd Stone Roses album on cassette. One of the relatively few new bands of that era that I had time to enjoy. I agree with you in that it’s my favorite of theirs. Thanks for the reminders about them recently.

The Milk Carton Kids – Monterey (Anti- 2015) @slaw recommended this last week so I bought it. He's right. I’m gonna second that rec. |
Jim and Tim, I rarely recommend the Decca. It’s fussy about tonearms. I also think it works best on an idler but that could be my bias. It also works best into a good tube phono amp. My SG has a John Wright fitted Paratrace stylus and a Decapod enhanced body. It’s damn good. But, what do I know? I don’t have a good MC to compare it to. All I know is it makes exquisite music. |
The Milk Carton Kids were for me one of the highlights of the New Basement Tapes (along with Marcus Mumford). I do wish they were a little more like The Everly Brothers than Simon & Garfunkel, but then I’m more of a 50’s than a 60’s guy, and more of a Rocker than a Folkie. Of course, S & G modelled their harmonies on those of the Brothers (the higher part a third above the lower one), as did Lennon & McCartney. It was when they added George on a third part that they got REALLY good, like The Byrds. The harmonies Brian Wilson wrote for The Beach Boys were far above those of either group, very sophisticated. |
