Are CD lens cleaners (disks) B.S. or effective?

Are CD lens cleaners (disks) B.S. or effective?

It depends upon what is contaminating the laser lens.

If it's just dust, then my 20 year old $5 Allsop (sp?) seems to do the trick.

If it's glop from "CD treatments" then I've had to access the lens and perform a proper cleaning (fortunately only had to do this 2X in 20 years as it's a PITA).

I've used the Allsop maybe 4-5 times in 20 years as my main deck is contained in a closed closet.

My other mini system(s) CD players are slot/top loading and they seal themselves shortly after a CD is removed.

they've always worked for me.  the one i have has one brush at 9 o'clock and another at 3 o'clock.  apply one drop of solution onto the 9 o'clock brush, insert the CD, press play, and you're done.
