Are CD lens cleaners (disks) B.S. or effective?

Are CD lens cleaners (disks) B.S. or effective?

i find this question a little odd since you have said that you have been in the hobby for quite a while.

I am sure that you have read comments from others over the years where members have given their input on these.?

I had a cleaner pad and fluid if I experienced a skip. I noticed no improvement with just cleaning. I used the fluorescent green edge pens… those I’d help improve the sonics a little bit… stray light bouncing around I am sure.

It depends upon what is contaminating the laser lens.

If it's just dust, then my 20 year old $5 Allsop (sp?) seems to do the trick.

If it's glop from "CD treatments" then I've had to access the lens and perform a proper cleaning (fortunately only had to do this 2X in 20 years as it's a PITA).

I've used the Allsop maybe 4-5 times in 20 years as my main deck is contained in a closed closet.

My other mini system(s) CD players are slot/top loading and they seal themselves shortly after a CD is removed.
