Posting the wrong MSRP: why?

Why do people post an inflated MSRP for their used gear?

I mean, it's not hard to check what the real price is.

It makes a very poor impression vis a vis, you know, truthiness.

OP, can you give some details? Curious what someone did that made you post this.

I see that sometimes, but more often I have seen someone list the wrong inflated retail, and then in the ad text state that it would be the price in today's dollars.

I should have stated it differently.

Sellers: don't post an inflated MSRP to try to make your price look better. It's really easy to check out, and it just makes you look untrustworthy.

(I was browsing for a new amp and noticed several mis-quoted original prices, one in particular for a pair of monoblocks that are available direct from the manufacturer and the price is on their order page.)

First world problems, why let it get to you? Make a deal or move on. Just saying.

There are a ton of them on us audiomart. Mostly dealers  do this, fluff the retail price, and still ask too much. 27,000 for them amps one dealer wants.
